WWE Extreme Rules PPV will take place on April 29, 2012 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois. As the name indicates, most of the matches involved have ‘extreme’ stipulations. Extreme Rules follows up a record-breaking showpiece event in Wrestlemania 28 and the several rematches are set to take place at the wind city. Seven matches have been scheduled to take place. Here is the list.
Match 1: Santino Marella (c) vs. The Miz
WWE United States Championship Match
WWE has started the trend of showcasing dark matches in a PPV as a pre-show in youtube, half an hour before the actual PPV begins. In the Extreme Rules pre-show, Santino Marella will defend his United States championship against The Miz. No specific stipulation has been announced for this match. This match will be telecast on WWE’s official youtube channel.
Match 3: Randy Orton vs. Kane
Falls Count Anywhere Match:
In this Wrestlemania 28 rematch, ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton will be looking forward to avenge his loss against ‘The Big Red Monster’ at the grandest stage of them all. Though this feud did not have much of a background story at Wrestlemania, it has involved the families of both men in the last few weeks. Being a false count anywhere match, pin-falls can take-place anywhere in the arena.
Match 3: Big Show (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match:
This is also a Wrestlemania 28 rematch. The stipulation for this match will be decided by the spin of the wheel(a roulette) during the pre-show.
Match 4: Nikki Bella (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
WWE Divas Championship Match:
Last week on Raw, Nikki Bella gained a surprise pin-fall victory over Beth Phoenix to win the Divas Championship. Beth Phoenix has used her rematch clause for a match at Extreme Rules. No matter who win, expect ‘Kharma’ to strike.
Match 5: Sheamus (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
2 out of 3 Falls Match For The World Title:
After a shocking 18 second loss at Wrestlemania 28, Daniel Bryan gets an opportunity to regain his World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules. This match will be a 2 out of 3 fall match. This means that the first superstar to gain two pin-falls or submissions will be the new World Heavyweight champion. This stipulation might favor the American Dragon, but don’t expect the ‘Celtic Warrior’ to go down without a fight. This match might be the show-stealer.
Match 6: CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho
Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Championship:
CM Punk gets an opportunity to decimate and humiliate Chris Jericho in front of his family and friends in Chicago in a Chicago Street Fight match. In a street fight, there are no rules. The participant can use any weaponry to brutalize his opponent, weaken his opponent and gain victory via pin-fall or submission.
Match 7: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena
Extreme Rules Match:
In his first match since returning to the WWE, Brock Lesnar takes on John Cena in a Extreme Rules match. It is simply a ‘No-holds barred’ match with no-disqualifications and no count-outs. The contestants are allowed to use any weapons to attack their opponent. This will be a slug-fest and will be interesting to see whether Brock Lesnar shows any ring-rust during this match.
Bottomline:
A stacked card with seven good match-ups with many potential show-stealers means that we are in for a treat this Sunday at Extreme Rules.
