After a week’s hiatus, NXT redemption was back this week. Last week, it was a special NXT graduates show which featured the likes of Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan and Brodus Clay who have been successful in the WWE after their stint in WWE NXT.
NXT Opener:
Due to Todd Grisham’s departure from the WWE, Jack Korpela took his place alongside William Regal in the commentary team. Darren Young came out and started badmouthing William Regal. Young challenged Regal for a match which was gladly accepted. Young’s in-ring personality seems to have improved and he seems to be making progress with his mike skills too. This was a good way to kick off NXT and we have a main event set for the night.
Segment Rating: 3/5
Match 1: Derrick Bateman and Maxine Vs Titus O’ Neil and AJ
Mixed Tag-Team Match
Mixed Tag Team matches aren’t worth it and this match was no different. Titus and AJ were the winners, as expected. This match was okay and it was more about the storyline advancement than showcasing the talents of the two rookies in the match. Titus showcased his power advantage in this match while Derrick did his best to showcase his character instead of what he can do in the ring. I thought this was one of Maxine’s best in ring performances and AJ continues to improve in the ring.
Winners: Titus O’Neil and AJ
Match Rating: 2/5
Match 2: Yoshi Tatsu Vs Tyson Kidd
Singles Match
Yoshi Tatsu was back in action after a long hiatus. Yoshi got the victory after a hard fought match. This featured the usual hard chops and kicks from both men. Kidd focused on Yoshi’s neck during the match. Like most of their matches, there were a number of good counters that helped move the pace of this match because of the amount of times that they have wrestled. It made sense for Yoshi to get the win with the new look and attitude and it will give Kidd the chance to see revenge while Yoshi’s character evolves. Before the match, Kidd cut a good promo and I really liked Kidd’s delivery. It did not sound like previous Kidd promos and I noticed a lot of intensity in what he was saying.
Winner: Yoshi Tatsu
Match Rating: 4/5
Match 3: Darren Young Vs William Regal
Singles Match
Regal came back to in-ring action this week. Regal put on a clinic for Young and emerged as the winner. I thought it was a good match using the pro/rookie dichotomy. We saw Regal teaching Young a lesson in the ring with the stiff forearms, knees, and uppercuts to Young. Young did a good job during the match taking the beating from Regal while regretting his decision to make the challenge after getting pummeled. When JTG tried to get involved, Matt Striker came to Regal’s aid and it allowed Regal to finish off Young with the knee trembler. It looks like we are going to get a tag match in the future with these four people. If that match happens, who joins Jack at the announce table?
Winner: William Regal
Match Rating: 4/5
The Bottom Line:
WWE NXT is doing a fair job these days. This episode was worth watching. The commentary was actually good with Jack Korpela forming a good team with William Regal.
NXT rating: 3/5
Best Match: Yoshi Tatsu Vs Tyson Kidd
