Shantha

WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow 29/8/11 was one of most exciting shows in recent history. It was exciting not only for its entertainment content but also for the wrestling quality which made its success to be imminent. So what exactly happened in this week’s show? Read more to find out yourself.

The interaction between Kevin Nash, Triple H and CM Punk

Raw Opener:

Raw was held at Tulsa, Oklahoma this week. Triple H came out first and made an announcement that all WWE shows in future will be supershows featuring superstars from Raw and Smackdown. Later on he demanded the truth from Kevin Nash. CM Punk interrupted him and made fun of him and his wife. Kevin Nash came out and a heated argument between the three followed. Triple H finally announced that Kevin Nash will face CM Punk in a match at Night of Champions. This was a very good segment to kick of Raw and we finally have a match set for Night of Champions, next month.

Randy Orton defeated Dolph Ziggler in a singles match

Match 1: Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler

Singles Match

The World Heavyweight Champion and the United States Champions locked horns in the first match of the night. The match was fast paced right from the moment that it started. A lot of counters and attack made this match awesome. This is pure wrestling with solid timing, and excellent back and forth momentum between the two. Randy Orton was victorious in the end courtesy of his RKO but Dolph Ziggler was at his best in this match. I did not understand the pairing, but sometimes storylines need to be put aside for the greatness of two competitors and that is what we got. Dolph continues to improve his in-ring skills.

Winner: Randy Orton

Match Rating: 5/5

Christian and Mark Henry taunt John Cena

In-ring Segment: Sheamus joins forces with Cena!

John Cena arrived next and called out Alberto Del Rio, the WWE Champion, who attacked him last week. Mark Henry came out, followed by Christian and there a verbal war among the three. When Christian and Mark Henry lost their and were about to attack Cena, Sheamus came out to save Cena from a beatdown. Later on, a tag-team match was announced by Triple H among these four men which will also be the night’s main event. Its funny that just an year ago Sheamus and Cena were in a brutal feud and now they are tag-team partners. It happens only in professional wrestling.

Nash attacks Punk after the match

Match 2: The Miz vs. CM Punk

Singles Match

The Miz cut a promo before the match to assert the fact that he was still awesome which was acutally good. Both men put on a good fight which was interrupted by R-Truth. Kevin Nash came out later and attacked Punk to keep their feud moving forward. I really liked this match, it was not flashy or action packed but more of an old school feel. The ending fit, so neither men looked weak with a clean loss. Nash is obviously the heel, which is the right call to do for him. His powerbomb still looks fantastic!

Winner: CM Punk by disqualification

Match Rating: 3/5

The spectacular entrance of Sin Cara

Match 3: Sin Cara vs. Jack Swagger

Singles Match

Jack Swagger was not accompanied by his manager Vickie Guerrero at the start of the match. Vickie came in later only to witness her client succumb to defeat. Sin Cara got the victory after hitting the double moonsault move. I did not like the pairing of these two. Each man has a different set of skills, and the timing seemed off and forced just to get Sin Cara over again. Swagger, Dolph and Vickie continue to implode, but who is the face, and who is the heel? There has to be some sort of change in the storyline to keep me interested, because the past three weeks, nothing has changed. Progression and changes need to be made each week to keep us stringing along.

Winner: Sin Cara

Match Rating: 3/5

Match 4: Air Boom vs. Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga

WWE Tag Team Championship Match

You might be wondering what the hell is Air Boom. Well, Air Boom is the newest tag team in the WWE consisting of Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston. Air Boom became the champions last week after they defeated Otunga and Michael. This week they faced David and Micheal in a rematch for the tag team titles. The match wasn’t so good and was a bit rushed. A short match which ended after Kofi hit the trouble in paradise to get the three count. During the course of the match, Jerry Lawler was criticizing David and Michael for being too dumb during their reign as tag team champs. This prompted Otunga to attack Lawler with his headphone after the match. This is intriguing and I’m interested to know what they’ll follow up on this.

Winners: Air Boom

Match Rating: 3/5

Match 5: Kelly Kelly vs. Brie Bella

Singles Match

A short match which ended with the Bellas getting the victory as a result of twin magic. I felt that it was a terrible match. Sloppy, out of place, and did not make any sense. The Bella’s are not fluent in the ring, do not get timing and reactions. I am getting so sick of seeing a Divas match with no purpose.

Winner: Brei Bella

Match Rating: 1/5

Match 6: John Cena and Sheamus vs. Christian and Mark Henry

Tag Team Match

The main event of Raw was a tag team match involving just on competitor from Raw and three from SmackDown. Sheamus and Mark Henry were the first to go head to head. A pretty solid match which ultimately ended with a victory for the faces – Sheamus and John Cena. This match was good but it proved nothing since there was no storyline involved except Sheamus and Mark Henry which is the main feud on SmackDown. Why bring them on raw? Why not use John Morrison or Alex Riley in these matches. In the end of the match, CM Punk met Triple H who revealed that Punk’s opponent at Night of champions will be himself. This was poor timing by the WWE since they changed Punk’s opponent in just an hour after announcing the earlier opponent.

Winner: John Cena and Sheamus.

Match Rating: 3/5

The Bottom Line:

Raw was spectacular for the regular followers since they got to see Smackdown stars up against raw stars in some of the matches. But it was sad to see the regular raw guys like Morrison, Alex Riley and R-Truth missing out of action which is bound to occur in the future too. WWE needs to make sure that it utilises all its stars to the optimum in a show. Another blackmark on this show was the absence of the WWE champion Alberto Del Rio which was mysterious. Wrestling websites are reporting that Alberto was unable to make it to the show because was in Mexico to renew his visa. But these things didn’t matter because Raw was more exciting than the past few weeks.Raw Rating: 4/5

Best Match: Randy Orton Vs. Dolph Ziggler
