Similar to the pattern of last week’s show, WWE superstars this week, had four good quality hardcore singles matches. These matches involved some of present wrestlers in the WWE who have the potential to grow and become much talented superstars in the very near future. Here are the results with my take on the show.
Match Number One: Sheamus versus Heath Slater
Singles Match
‘The Celtic Warrior’ Sheamus and ‘The one man rock band’ Heath Slater were involved in this mach which was the curtain raiser for WWE Superstars this week. Before the match began Slater made a good promo regarding his elimination by Sheamus in the Smackdown Battle Royal last week. While Slater may be weak on the mic, his wrestling skills in the match were laudable. Unsurprisingly, Sheamus was the winner at the end of the match. Slater put on a valiant fight but it wasn’t enough to overcome the strength and power of the Celtic Warrior.
Winner: Sheamus
Match Rating: 3/5
Match Number Two: Brodus Clay versus Pete Gibson
Singles Match
Brodus Clay has been involved in four consecutive matches until now against an inexperienced opponent. This weeks too, Clay took on Pete Gibson who is an unfamiliar face in the WWE circles. And yet again, Brodus Clay had a quick victory over his opponent. But putting victories under his belt, Brodus Clay is trying to build credibility to his character which is welcome sign of the things to come. Brodus Clay is on a roll and he’s certainly, UNSTOPPABLE!
Winner: Brodus Clay
Match Rating: 2/5
Match Number Three: Justin Gabriel versus JTG
Singles Match
The South African sensation Justin Gabriel locked horns with the Brooklyn brawler JTG. This match had the zing but lacked pace mainly because of JTG’s involvement in the match. JTG lacks pace and it showed. Justin Gabriel was the only solace as he showcased his high flying antics and finished off the match with his 450 splash. Justin Gabriel never ceases to impress you every time he’s in the ring. His 450 splash is a very difficult move and yet he executes it to perfection every time I see it. Keep up the spirit Gabriel.
Winner: Justin Gabriel
Match Rating: 3/5
Match Number Four: Daniel Bryan versus Drew McIntyre
Singles Match
Daniel Bryan took on Drew McIntyre in what was the most intriguing clash of the night. Daniel Bryan had the ability to restrict the swift movement of his opponent because of his submission moves and high flying antics. Whereas, Drew McIntyre had the power, strength and height to withstand the attacks of Bryan and counterpunch. The varied strengths of these two superstars made this match into an absolute treat for the wrestling fans. Bryan was the eventual winner as he applied the Guillotine Choke which forced Drew to tap out. Two of the finest young stars of the WWE put on a great fight. They deserve more attention on SmackDown.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
Match Rating: 4/5
The Bottom Line:
4 matches, 8 superstars and no storylines. This was the mantra for this week’s Superstars. Eventhough there weren’t any storylines between the two wrestlers involved, these matches enabled several mid card wrestlers to exhibit their talent on TV. Though this episode of WWE Superstars wasn’t so impressive, it was still good and I liked it.
Superstars Rating: 3/5
Best Match of the night: Daniel Bryan versus Drew McIntyre
