WWE Superstars 11/8/11: Results, Review and Analysis

Shantha

This week’s edition of WWE Superstars consisted of four quality wrestling matches – two each from Raw and Smackdown. Two singles matches, a Tag team match and a Divas singles match in the show meant that there was quality wrestling for more than 30 minutes. Here is a brief review of what happened in those matches.

Match 1: Ted DiBiase vs Trent Barreta

Ted DiBiase had been on a downward spiral ever since wrestlemania 26 when ‘The Legacy’ consisting of himself, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes split up. Cody Rhodes went on to become a top heel at Smackdown and Randy Orton continued his rise to the top of the WWE pecking order. But Ted DiBiase happened to be at the wrong places all the time. He seemed to be back to his element over the past few months after the WWE Draft which brought him to smackdown, enabling him to team up with Cody Rhodes. This week on superstars, he took on Trent Barreta in a singles match. Both men put on a good match which was eventually won by DiBiase. DiBiase has the looks and skills but hasn’t yet found the right character that suits him and makes his persona to be noteworthy. If he doesn’t improve, he’s sure to get future endeavored in the near future.

Winner: Ted DiBiase

Match Rating: 3/5

Match 2: Alicia Fox vs Tamina

Tamina, the daughter of WWE hall of famer – Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka took on Alicia Fox in this match. Both divas did a pretty good job with plenty of innovative moves in the ring. It was Alicia who got the victory through pinfall after hitting her finishing move on Tamina, who was quite impressive in this match.

Winner: Alicia Fox

Match Rating: 3/5

Match 3: Brodus Clay versus Aaron James

If you are wondering who Aaron James is, he was a part of the recently concluded WWE Tough Enough show wherein he finished fourth. This match was Brodus Clay’s second consecutive match against a local wrestler in as many weeks. He once again dominated the weaker opponent – in this case AJ, with his mammoth size and supreme power to get the victory via pinfall. Clay is on a roll over the past few weeks and might be due for a big push in the near future.

Winner: Brodus Clay

Match Rating: 2/5

Match 4: Santino Marella and Evan Bourne vs David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty

The longest match of the night happened to be a tag-team match which was kind of surprising to me since WWE’s tag team division was the least cared about division in the past. However, with recent reports citing that Triple H has plans to revamp the Tag Team division, let us hope that we get to see good quality tag-team action in the future atleast. Otunga and Michael continued their winning streak over the past few weeks during which they have fended of challenges from three or four tag-teams. These victories might give them some credibility as champions but might not last long if they don’t improve their wrestling acumen. Santino and Bourne had several bright spots in the match and kudos to them for working so well together eventhough they aren’t a regular tag team. A worthy main event of the show with good quality action.

Winners: David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty

Match Rating: 4/5

The Bottomline:

I would say that variety was the key to the success of this week’s edition of WWE Superstars. Unique matches with talented wrestlers meant that there was something in it for everyone and hence the show delivered.

Show Rating: 3/5
