It has been just over a week since the 2016 edition of the Olympic Games concluded in the city of Rio De Janeiro, where the Indian contingent had a poor show. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt lost his bout and recently apologized to his fans through social media.
However, there was good news for the wrestler who won the Bronze medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012 in the 60-kg freestyle event. Eventual Silver Medal winner, Russia’s Besik Kudukhov had reportedly tested positive for a banned substance which meant that Yogeshwar Dutt would be receiving an upgrade, turning the Indian’s Bronze medal to a Silver.
IOC’s retesting of Kudukhov’s blood resulted in a positive outcome and could lead to his silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics being stripped. The results, however, are yet to be officially confirmed by the United World Wrestling (UWW) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Russian wrestler, unfortunately, passed away late in 2013 in a road accident.
Initially, Dutt had refused to comment on the issue. But on Tuesday evening the wrestler said, “Jo likha hota hai, wo hoke rehta hai (What’s written in the stars is bound to happen); This is another victory for out country”. He also tweeted about the news stating that the medal was for the citizens of India.

However, Yogeshwar Dutt cut short the celebration, tweeting that he has the utmost respect for the deceased and his family. He further tweeted that he will not be accepting the upgrade and stated that the medal should instead stay with the family of the deceased wrestler. He said that human feelings are paramount for him.
