Heading into this match, several fans already knew that it was going to be Cody Rhodes' night, however, fans did not entirely count out Daniels from the bout, as we witnessed a good, solid wrestling match between the two superstars. Regardless of the outside interference from Marty Scurll, who ran down to the ring with a steel chair in hand in order to help Cody win the title, this match was an instant classic, to say the least.
In the closing stages, finishers were exchanged between both men and Cody finally hit the second Cross Rhodes of the match for the win and became the first Rhodes to win a World Title in 31 years.
