#8. Hardcore Holly broke his neck on SmackDown
Hardcore Holly was one of WWE's toughest SOBs in the early 2000's and was one of the most experienced performers in the locker room.
Holly came up against Brock Lesnar in 2003 on an episode of SmackDown, and things didn't quite go according to plan. During the match, Lesnar dropped Holly on his neck, resulting in a severe broken neck for the former Hardcore Champion.
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
It was a freak accident that resulted from Brock being sick and fatigued, and Holly holds no grudges against The Beast Incarnate. The incident was eventually turned into a storyline on Smackdown, once Holly was again cleared to compete.
#7. Randy Orton broke his collarbone in a match vs. Triple H
The rivalry between former Evolution teammates was renewed at the WWE One Night Stand pay-per-view in 2008. Triple H was defending the WWE Championship against Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match.
During the latter stages of the match, Randy Orton attempted an RKO in the ring which Triple H countered, sending Orton shoulder first over the top rope. Orton landed on said shoulder outside the ring and immediately broke his collarbone.
Orton's left arm was locked and he couldn't move it, but he did manage to continue the match a little longer before Triple H defeated him to retain the WWE title. Orton was out of action for the rest of the summer of 2008.
#6. Paige had to retire due to a freak accident at a WWE house show
An unfortunate event which resulted in one of the brightest stars of the women's division being forced to retire was caught on camera by a WWE fan.
Paige had already completed successful neck surgery in 2016, and was later cleared to return to action. It would be a brutal incident just a few months later involving her neck that would result in her retirement from the ring.
During a WWE house show on December 27th in 2017, Paige was kicked in the back by Sasha Banks. Paige was quickly jolted forward causing serious impact on her neck. She tried to get up and continue but the referee ultimately stopped the match.
Paige has not competed in a WWE ring since the incident, but has appeared in a non-wrestling capacity and continues to be an ambassador for the company. She hopes to one day make a return to the squared circle.
