The short-lived tag team of John Cena and Shawn Michaels

Surprisingly, John Cena has only had one reign as a double champion in WWE career. Back in 2007, The Doctor of Thuganomics was the WWE Champion. Cena was in the middle of a lengthy reign after beating Edge for the title in a grueling Tables, Ladders and Chairs match at Unforgiven 2006. The reigning champion was heading into WrestleMania 23 to defend the title against long time rival (and another double champion) Shawn Michaels.

To spice things up, Vince McMahon decided to form a tag team between the rivals, and they defeated Rated RKO to lift the Tag Team Championships. The pair, as a tag team, worked well, holding onto the belts for 63 days.

At WrestleMania, Cena retained the singles title after overpowering HBK in the main event. The day after the event, Michaels turned on his tag team partner, deliberately eliminating himself and Cena from the battle royal which was to determine the new tag champs. The Hardy Boyz ended up winning the contest.
