Despite dropping the IC Title back to Shelton Benjamin within a few short weeks, RVD then took full advantage of his MITB Contract and cashed it in at ECW: One Night Stand and defeated WWE poster boy John Cena to win the WWE Championship for the very first time in his career.
Following his win over Cena at the hostile Hammerstein Ballroom, RVD was eventually awarded the prestigious ECW Championship by promotion originator Paul Heyman, thus making Van Dam the first ever superstar in history to hold both the WWE and the ECW Championship at the same time.
