10 Swerves that could happen in the WWE by the end of 2017

Sami Zayn shocked the world at WWE Hell in a Cell 2017

The WWE is at its best when it manages to surprise us. In this day and age, it's hard to avoid spoilers or speculation about what's going to happen so when the WWE does truly manage to pull something out of the bag that no-one sees coming, it's fantastic.

In the last week or so we've already seen a whole host of crazy things that happen within the WWE that would have surprised everyone, most notably Sami Zayn turned heel by saving Kevin Owens from Shane McMahon at Hell in a Cell. But we've also seen a Shield reunion, a shock Cruiserweight Title change and a new alter-ego for Bray Wyatt in 'Sister Abigail'.

But, with only a couple of months left until the year is over, the WWE still has plenty of time to throw in a few more unexpected curveballs. Here are 10 swerves that could happen in the WWE by 2017.

#10 The New Day turn on Xavier Woods

Will the New Day turn on Xavier Woods?
Will the New Day turn on Xavier Woods?

This is one that I don't want to see happen, but following the brilliant Hell In a Cell match between The Usos and The New Day, Xavier Woods seemed to take the loss pretty hard and blamed himself.

Whilst it probably wasn't Woods' fault that the New Day lost at Hell in a Cell 2017, there is an interesting stat that shows that during the rivalry with The Usos, the New Day have failed to pick up a win when the team of Big E and Xavier Woods is used.

On SmackDown LIVE, The Usos called out The New Day and gave them their respect and that's about all we saw of the trio following their HIAC loss. But it's possible that soon Kofi Kingston and Big E could put two and two together and start blaming Xavier Woods for their title loss.

#9 Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder turn heel

Could the Hype Bros lose the hype?
Could the Hype Bros lose the hype?

The Hype Bros have been teasing a break up for the last few weeks now after being frustrated at every turn and failing to pick up a win in their last handful of matches. The pair lost at the Hell in a Cell pre-show in what seemed to be a make-or-break match and then failed to pick up the #1 Contendership on the following SmackDown LIVE so a breakup seems imminent.

But what if instead of Mojo Rawley turning on Zack Ryder, or Zack Ryder turning on Mojo Rawley, they both turn on the tag-team division, dropping their 'hype' gimmick and taking out their frustrations on the rest of the tag-team division as heels

We've seen the WWE-Superstar-frustrated-with-their-position-and-reaction-from-fans-and-the-matches-they're-losing-so-turn-heel storyline quite often, most recently with Neville, Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler. But this could be a good thing for the Hype Bros.

#8 Jason Jordan isn't Kurt Angle's son

Imagine if Jason Jordan wasn't Kurt Angle's son
Imagine if Jason Jordan wasn't Kurt Angle's son

Jason Jordan being revealed as Kurt Angle's son was one of the biggest swerves in the WWE this year, with there being months of build-up between Angle and Corey Graves leading to the big reveal.

It was also a swerve because many of the dirtsheets and wrestling sites fully expected it to be Chad Gable and not Jason Jordan from American Alpha who would be revealed as Angle's storyline son, but the WWE fooled us all and went for Jordan.

But imagine this, the actress who plays Jason Jordan's kayfabe mother appears on the show and announces that there's been a huge mistake and that Jason Jordan, is in fact, not Kurt Angle's son. It would definitely be intriguing.

You could even then have her announce that someone else in the WWE is actually Jordan's father and that there was a mix-up leading to Corey Graves and Jason Jordan thinking he was Kurt's son. This could then lead to a ridiculous but entertaining custody match between surrogate father Kurt Angle and real father to be revealed!

#7 Seth Rollins turns on The Shield again

Seth Rollins turns on the Shield

The Shield were one of the hottest factions in the WWE until Seth Rollins shockingly sided with the Authority and Triple H, against his former teammates, and tragically broke up the Hounds of Justice.

Now the Shield have recently gotten back together and everything seems right with the world, the popular team are due to battle The Miz, The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) and Braun Strowman in a 4 vs 3 TLC match at the Raw brand TLC pay-per-view.

But after that there doesn't seem to be any plans for the Shield expect that they're not expected to be together long.

Well, what if in a few months time the same thing happens again. Not only would it be completely shocking given all of the work Seth Rollins has gone through to convince Dean Ambrose that his back-stabbing days are over, but it would probably simultaneously get him over as the biggest heel in the company and finally get the fans behind Roman Reigns.

#6 Kevin Owens turns on Sami Zayn again

Kevin Owens brutally attaacks his 'close friend' Sami Zayn
Kevin Owens brutally attacks his 'close friend' Sami Zayn

I know this seems like a joke, but let's be honest, this really is the most likely outcome of the coming together of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens on SmackDown LIVE, following the former's interference in the latter's Hell in a Cell match with Shane McMahon.

We saw the pair effectively reunite on SmackDown LIVE when Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn thanked each other and raised each other's arms in the middle of the ring. Zayn even tweeted this.

However, there are many things in this world that are constant: the sun must rise and fall, the tides must come in and go out, and, if the last ten years of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn wrestling together are anything to go by, Kevin Owens must turn on Sami Zayn.

#5 Asuka goes on a losing streak

What if Emma beats Asuka at TLC 2017?
What if Emma beats Asuka at TLC 2017?

Asuka is currently one of the most dominant wrestlers in modern WWE history, her NXT title reign lasted 510 days before she decided to just give it up and move up to the main roster.

Because of this, there are big things expected for her debut match at WWE TLC 2017 against Emma. Everyone expects Asuka to display her talents, beat Emma comfortably, and re-establish her dominance on Monday Night Raw, continuing her unbeaten streak, because that's arguably the right thing to do.

But what if the WWE trolls us all and has "The Empress of Tomorrow" go on a losing streak, starting with Emma shockingly beating Asuka at WWE TLC. It would be stupid, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

#4 UFC Invades

Could the UFC stars invade the WWE?
Could the UFC stars invade the WWE?

There's been a ton of speculation about the WWE signing Ronda Rousey, and even more speculation about a pro-wrestling deal being made with Connor McGregor. If these two did sign for the WWE they'd have a plethora of UFC talents.

What if they ran an invasion angle? They could use Rhonda, Shayna Bazler from NXT, and the rest of 'The Four Horsewomen' from UFC to take over the WWE Women's division, and bring in Connor McGregor, and the Irishman and Brock Lesnar could hold down the two main titles on Raw and SmackDown LIVE.

You could even go completely nuts and have Dana White reveal himself as the mastermind, starting a huge battle for control of the WWE between the WWE Superstars and the UFC stars.

Okay, so it's unlikely that'll all happen before Christmas, but we could at least see the match that was teased at the Mae Young Classic between the Four Horsewomen of the WWE and the Four Horsewomen of UFC.

#3 Finn Balor joins the Wyatt family

Could Finn Balor join the Wyatt Family?
Could Finn Balor join the Wyatt Family?

This swerve is coming from a purely fantasy booking point of view, but wouldn't it be amazing if Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor joined forces after their current feud with each other is done, and you could make it make sense storyline-wise as well.

Balor can come face to face with 'Sister Abigail' in the ring and lose, realising that even as 'the demon' he can't stop Bray Wyatt. As a result, he joins the Wyatt Family and the pair become a supernatural tag-team for the ages!

It makes sense from a practical point of view as well. Neither man looks like they're getting close to a prominent singles run, so with the newly reformed Shield joining the Hardy Boys, The Bar, The Club and The Miztourage in the tag-team division, the addition of Balor and Wyatt would make for some very exciting matches indeed.

#2 Ricochet debuts at the Rumble and wins

Could we see Ricochet at the Royal Rumble?
Could we see Ricochet at the Royal Rumble?

There's been a ton of speculation surrounding Richochet (also known as Prince Puma in Lucha Underground) and whether or not he shows up in the WWE. This is because his Lucha Underground contract is up, and he seems to have said farewell to NJPW, dropping all of the titles he had there.

But if he does go to the WWE, he should debut at the Royal Rumble, and even more shockingly, he should go on to win the whole thing, preferably from an early entrance point in the match. This would undoubtedly be a huge upset and surprise for the WWE universe.

It would also help to fully establish Richochet and get him over with the WWE Universe in a big way that hasn't been done before. Or, you could, you know just stick him on 205 Live.

#1 John Cena returns and turns heel

Will John Cena finally turn heel?
Will John Cena finally turn heel?

We talk about it every time when it looks like Cena is going to have a break from the WWE, as fans are dying to see what the long-time WWE 'face' can do as the bad guy on television. But is it more likely now than ever?

Well, 'free agent' Cena moved over to Raw to take on Roman Reigns at No Mercy in what seemed like a 'handing over of the torch.' Cena lost the match and we haven't seen him since on WWE programming.

Which means there's a chance that when he returns he'll be so angry about his loss to Reigns that he'll finally snap and turn over to the dark side. Let's be honest, what else is there for Cena to do within a WWE ring? He's done it all except turn heel.
