WrestleMania 31 gave us one of the all-time great moments in WWE history. Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot to defeat Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship in the main event. Reigns was expected to win the title here as his crowning moment, but this was the start of the fans turning on him with loud boos every week.

WWE decided they wanted to prolong Reigns’ title win which led to a change of plans. Rollins has revealed he started planting the seeds of the cash-in idea after Reigns’ controversial Royal Rumble win in 2015. It culminated with WWE going through with the plan of the cash-in. This was the first time the Money in the Bank title shot would take place at a WrestleMania event. Rollins had a strong run as WWE Champion that cemented him as a main eventer in WWE.
He even went on to become the face of the brand despite being a strong heel, solidifying his position in the WWE.
