One of the most common questions I get from wrestling fans, is "how much do wrestlers make?" For years now, it's been a hot topic of discussion and while there is an abundance of rumors out there regarding WWE salaries, no one knows for certain exactly what the superstars make, because it's not something that the company releases to the public.
However, there are several fairly credible sources who give us their beliefs on what the talent makes.
There are several factors that go into play, when it comes to how much a wrestlers makes each year. Each superstar gets a base salary and royalties on certain items, such as action figures, publications and so on.

The wrestlers also received income from non-wrestling appearances, such as comic-con and Wizard World. Some receive additional income from gate money from house shows and a select few get paid a percentage of pay-per-view profits.
Some superstars also receive a percentage of their merchandise sold. There are also certain perks that some of the top-talent enjoys, such as first class airfare, personal tour buses and private jet usage. All of these things add up to additional income, on top of what is negotiated on their contracts as base salary.
As far as the contract itself, the WWE contract is broken down into 14 detailed sections. For those interested in what each section pertains to, here's what each section is labeled as, in order.
- Booking
- Works/Programs
- Intellectual Property
- Merchandising
- Exclusivity
- Term & Territory
- Payments & Royalties
- Promoters Obligations
- Talent Obligations
- Warranty
- Early Termination
- Breach
- Miscellaneous
- Confidentiality
All of the above mentioned sections are gone over in strict detail, during the contract signing. Each individual section is then initialed and signed by the superstar, as well as the person going over the contract, as well as a witness, which is typically someone else from WWE Talent Management, such as Triple H.
While the salaries are each negotiated individually, the overall amount each wrestler will make, is determined on a case-by-case situation. No two salary negotiations are the same and the overall salaries vary. The average salary can range anywhere from the low six figures, to the tens of millions of dollars, all depending upon the respective superstar.
As I mentioned earlier, there are numerous sources that claim to have the exact salaries of each superstar. However, there are only a few that are considered credible sources. What I have done, is taken several credible reporting sources and compiled my own listing of ten current WWE Superstars and their approximate salary for 2016.
I have also included each superstars net worth.

Bonuses/perks: Economy/coach air travel, hotel, rental cars
While the Eater of Worlds is not making as much as most of his current competition, it's a far cry from the reported $245,000 he made last year. Look for Wyatt to be able to demand more cash, if and when he does capture that elusive first championship.
#9 Roman Reigns
2016 Salary: $550,000
Net worth: $1.0 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: undisclosed percentage of merchandise sales, economy/coach air travel, hotel, rental cars
Roman was making roughly $300,000 just last year. Once he won the WWE Championship, his stock rose and now as the United States Champion, Reigns may indeed be seeking a pay increase for 2017.
#8 Kevin Owens
2016 Salary: $950,000
Net worth: 2.5 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: economy/coach air travel, hotel, rental cars
The current Universal Champion is sure to make much more cash in the near future. Owens success has skyrocketed since arriving in the WWE, along with his popularity. His current merchandise sales are steadily increasing, so look for KO to get a piece of that pie in the near future as well.
#7 Seth Rollins
2016 Salary: $950,000
Net worth: 3.0 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: first class air travel, 1.5% of merchandise profits, hotel, rental cars
Seth Rollins is also someone who has seen a huge increase in salary recently. After capturing the WWE Championship, Rollins went on a tear, holding the title until his injury, which at that time he was forced to vacate the championship. Rollins will easily be making six figures in 2017.
#6 The Miz
2016 salary: 1.2 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: undisclosed percentage from merchandise sales, first class air travel
Net worth: 6 million dollars
Some may be surprised at the salary for The Miz. It's important to note that he has been under a WWE contract for over 12 years now. Also, The Miz has won a triple crown, as well as a grand slam. The triple crown signifies that a wrestler has won three different titles within one promotion, while the grand slam equates to the superstar winning four different titles.
The Miz has also made money from performing in various films, such as The Marine.
#5 Big Show
2016 Salary: 1.25 million dollars
Net worth: 20 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: first class air travel, upgraded hotel stays, private business
The Big Show is someone who has been around a long time and negotiated well, in terms of salary. Show has kept a salary of above six figures for at least the last decade, which contributes to his high net worth. Show has also made money from various films he's been a part of as well.
#4 The Undertaker
2016 Salary: 2.25 million dollars
Net worth: 17.5 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: first class air travel, hotel upgrades, undisclosed pay-per-view bonus when he's in main event, 2% merchandise sales
The Deadman is making pretty good change, especially considering he works at limited schedule, VERY limited. We don't expect that to change, either. Taker is in the final years of his epic career. He's earned that luxury of only working one or two events per year.
#3 Triple H
2016 Salary: 2.8 million dollars
Net worth: 25 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: stock options, private jet, limited travel and appearances, pay-per-view bonuses, 5% merchandise profits
Triple H is enjoying the spotlight of being the man in charge these days. While he can still step into the ring from time-to-time, Hunter is primarily responsible for his corporate duties, including serving as the Sr. VP of Talent, creative for main roster and creator/senior producer for NXT.
#2 Brock Lesnar
2016 Salary: 6.0 million dollars
Net worth: 21 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: private jet use, hotel upgrades, undisclosed merchandise bonus, pay-per-view bonus
Brock Lesnar is a feature attraction, plain and simple. Some believe he is overpaid, but the fact of the matter, is he's a huge draw, regardless of the location. WWE could run a show in the Sahara desert, put Brock in the main event and it would be a sellout.
A lot of Lesnar’s contract details remain a mystery, but he's definitely paid well, that's for sure.
#1 John Cena
2016 Salary: 9.5 million dollars
Net worth: 35 million dollars
Bonuses/perks: private jet use, 4 star or better hotel where available, 3.0% of merchandise sales, highest pay-per-view bonus in company
Love or hate him, John Cena has earned the right to be the highest paid wrestler in the entire industry. On top of his base salary, Cena has a lucrative bonus program, plus he is involved in several WWE films, as well as his role in the reality television series, all of which give John a very comfortable means of supplemental income.
