Edge is one of the pivotal reasons why SmackDown is able to complete 1000 episodes. And, a lot of fans might scratch their head if he doesn't show up at their celebratory episode. Edge himself tweeted that he hasn't been called to make an appearance.
However, PWInsider reports that all this is a work. Edge is waiting for WWE to announce that he will be making an appearance so that his inclusion seems special.
Edge was one of the most "over" superstars in the SmackDown roster whether as a heel or a face. He should make an appearance in the show whether WWE announces it beforehand or not.
