The Sheik was one of the first few wrestlers Vince McMahon signed to become a WWE Superstar when he formed the company in the 1960s. He was also someone who was trusted to feud with WWE legend Bruno Sammartino early on.

Sheik was a big attraction in WWE and had two successful reigns as the United States Heavyweight Champion. His reigns allowed him to become a major name for the company, and he had a few stints with WWE during his career.

Many WWE fans may be unaware that The Sheik is also the real-life uncle of ECW legend Sabu. Sabu has had a successful career in ECW, along with several other promotions during his lengthy career.

Sheik passed away in 2003, but his nephew continues to compete for IMPACT Wrestling where he has had some great matches.

In 2007, Sabu and Rob Van Dam inducted The Sheik into the WWE Hall of Fame. The induction ensured the Sheik’s contribution to professional wrestling was acknowledged by the largest wrestling promotion in the world.
