Instead of Baron Corbin, WWE probably could have booked a different opponent for John Cena at Summerslam 2017. One name that comes to mind is Shinsuke Nakamura, who faced Cena a few weeks before The Biggest Event of the Summer that year.

The two had a number-one contender's match for the WWE Championship, but it would have been better on a larger stage like SummerSlam. It was a great clash, with Nakamura picking up a massive victory.

While that was the only singles match between the pair, John Cena crossed paths with Shinsuke Nakamura once again in the 2018 Men's Royal Rumble Match. The Japanese star eliminated Cena from the match en route to winning the whole contest.

Cena does not seem likely to ever right this wrong given his part-time status and Nakamura and him both being babyfaces on SmackDown. WWE always pits a heel against a babyface, never a heel against a heel or a babyface against a babyface.
