On November 2, 2024, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg appeared as a celebrity guest on ESPN's SEC Nation. During the show, the former Universal Champion announced that he would return to the Stamford-based promotion for a retirement match in 2025.

Since Goldberg made this announcement, wrestling fans have been excited to see whom he will face in what will be the final feud of his career. While there is a clear frontrunner to face the WCW Legend, there are also some other names who could be interesting opponents.

In this article, we will take a look at three best and two worst opponents for Goldberg when he returns to the WWE ring in 2025:

Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.

#3. Best Option: Bronson Reed could be an ideal match for Goldberg when he returns to WWE

At the recently concluded WWE Crown Jewel, Bronson Reed was given his first big opportunity in an unsanctioned match against Seth Rollins, and Reed did not disappoint. While the monstrous Aussie ended up losing the fight, he looked spectacular in doing so.

Despite Rollins inflicting damage on Bronson Reed, the latter was able to stand tall. An opponent of this caliber could be perfect for someone like Goldberg. The former World Heavyweight Champion could end his career on a high note by taking down a towering figure like Reed.

#2. Best Option: Bron Breakker

Since Bron Breakker made his WWE debut and gained popularity, he has constantly been compared to Goldberg. As a matter of fact, in Breakker's rise to the Intercontinental Championship, many people often expressed their desire to see him face the legendary wrestler.

In 2025, WWE could fulfill this desire by booking a match between Breakker and Goldberg. This bout would also sell well because both wrestlers represent two completely different generations, and it will be interesting to see which generation comes out on top.

#1. Best Option: Gunther

World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is the frontrunner to face Goldberg in his retirement match next year. At WWE Bad Blood in October, The Ring General insulted Goldberg, prompting the legend to jump the barricade to try to attack the Austrian.

However, security was quick to defuse the situation. Since this interaction between the two stars took place, fans have wanted to see them compete. Hence, the World Heavyweight Champion is the ideal choice to face the Oklahoma-born wrestler in 2025.

#2. Worst Option: Uncle Howdy

Even though Uncle Howdy is finding his footing on Monday Night RAW, seeing him against Goldberg doesn't sit right. While the storytelling of Howdy's feuds would be completely alien to the former champion, Bo Dallas has yet to establish himself as a credible singles superstar.

Since he has yet to climb the pinnacle, a feud against him won't be worth it for Goldberg. In his retirement match, the latter needs to face someone who is revered by the crowd as a beast and will match his style. Howdy, unfortunately, might not fit this criterion.

#1. Worst Option: John Cena

In 2025, another name who will be returning to WWE for his retirement tour is John Cena. This is a strong reason many believe the two superstars should collide. However, realistically speaking, a match between Cena and Goldberg won't live up to the hype.

In his last match against Roman Reigns at the 2022 Elimination Chamber, Goldberg did not look the best. And this was natural, given his age. When the legendary wrestler returns in 2025, he will be 58 years old. Cena, on the other hand, is also way past his prime.

Hence, there is a huge chance a potential match between the two could be underwhelming. Also, since this will be Goldberg's final match, he would definitely not want to end his career with an underwhelming performance.
