Sometimes promos are remembered more than the matches itself. Just look at the picture above, who could ever forget 3 legends in the ring at the same time. Even on a show with Undertaker's WrestleMania streak coming to an end, this moment is still remembered to this day.
Most episodes of RAW and SmackDown these days always start the same way. The first 20 minutes or so is a promo of some sorts. Sometimes, they do that for PPVs as well. It's something WWE shouldn't do, but on some nights, it works.
Here are 3 occasions where PPV segments were really good and memorable.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#3 NWO Arrive (No Way Out 2002)
As good as this moment was when it happened, it should've happened a year earlier. The NWO should've been one of the first things Vince got when he purchased WCW. But at least we did get to see it.
Seeing all three men in the ring proudly wearing NWO colors was an amazing sight. The dream matches alone were something to be excited about. We had The Rock vs Hogan, which is considered one of the best WrestleMania matches of all time.
The only bad thing about this promo was that instead of going to war with WWE, Hogan declared peace. Something NWO was never known for. It's a moment that sticks in wrestling fans minds and it deserves to be.
#2 The Beginning of WrestleMania XXX
To start a PPV with a promo is a bold choice, especially WrestleMania. But having the likes of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold and The Rock in the ring is something every fan is happy with. This set the tone for the rest of the night being memorable.
As stated earlier, even on the same night as Undertaker being defeated for the first time at the event, this moment sticks out and it definitely should.
All three men just playing off of each other makes it even better. You can tell the three of them were out there having fun. The best promos don't always end up scripted and this showed. Well, besides Hogan calling the venue the ''Silverdome'' instead of the Superdome.
#1 Heyman Shooting from the Hip (One Night Stand 2005)
We can forgive WWE for putting a promo in the middle of an ECW PPV. Especially when it's Paul Heyman talking. Paul would shoot on all of the RAW and SmackDown Superstars sitting up in the balcony watching the show.
Heyman spoke true to everyone up there. The best being when he put his attention to JBL. "The only reason you were WWE Champion for a year," he said, "is because Triple H didn't wanna work Tuesdays." The line is so good and funny that everyone remembers it.
The crowd ate everything up and were pouring on alongside Heyman as he was talking. The crowd would chant out Matt Hardy's name when Edge was the focus point. That was because of the affair between him and Lita that had gone public right around that time.
A promo that everyone should watch and it's definitely one of the best promos Paul Heyman has ever done.
