Shinsuke Nakamura is arguably one of the soundest technical wrestlers in the business today. He won the Royal Rumble in early 2018 and went on to challenge WWE Champion AJ Styles for his title at WrestleMania 34. After losing to Styles, Nakamura turned heel after the match.

In the following weeks, Nakamura got a number of chances at the title once again but all resulted in either disqualification or losses for the Japanese-born superstar.

On July 3, it was announced that Nakamura would face Jeff Hardy for the United States Championship at Extreme Rules. At the event on July 15, Nakamura executed a low blow and Kinshasa on Hardy to win the championship, marking his first main roster title win.

The win which should have been special for a superstar like Nakamura, was spoiled by dirty tactics which decreased his value.

Not only that, but the WWE put him in far lesser matches and title defenses which made him the Brock Lesnar of SmackDown Live. He lost a few non-title matches during his reign which made him come across as more of an undeserving champion who only made it through by cheating.

Nakamura is a class act and deserves all the television time and big matches possible. His United States Championship run wasn’t great, and he was made to rely more on his heelish tactics to win matches rather than his actual skills which were more than enough to get him through.
