The creation of AEW is one of the biggest events to happen in wrestling in the past 10 years. AEW is poised to provide some much-needed competition in a landscape that has been dominated by WWE for the past 2 decades. Wrestling fans all over the world are getting ready for a second coming of the famed wrestling wars. The companies are already gearing up to try and outdo each other.
One of the things that WWE could be planning to do to counter AEW is move NXT away from the WWE Network to TV. Initially, when it was reported that NXT would move to TV, most people thought that it would move to FS1. This is because Smackdown is heading to Fox in October, and most people thought that Fox would be interested in getting NXT.
However, according to reporting from both Dave Meltzer and WrestleVotes, NXT will most likely move to the USA Network.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
An article on the WWE website revealed that WWE officials plan to make a big announcement on this week’s episode of RAW. Most observers expect that Vince McMahon and Triple H will announce the NXT move to the USA Network.
Such a big move will definitely come with a lot of changes. In this article, we look at 3 changes that might happen if NXT moves to the USA Network.
#3 Main roster stars to appear on NXT
Since the early days of NXT, several main roster stars have appeared on the brand. Most of the appearances are usually one-offs. However, some, such as Killian Dain, Fandango and Tyler Breeze moved back to NXT after a stint on the main roster. Some of the stars who appeared in NXT for one-off appearances include the Bella Twins, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton.
If NXT moves to the USA Network, WWE is going to use main roster stars to increase the number of people who watch the show. The appearance of main roster stars might give fans some of the matches they’ve been dying to see, such as the OC vs. the Undisputed Era.
Some of the stars that might appear on NXT include Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.
#2 NXT to start streaming live
One of the biggest changes that could happen when NXT moves to the USA Network is that it could transition to a live show. At the moment, NXT is taped several weeks in advance, and the show is then streamed on the WWE Network. This gives the NXT production team a lot of time to fix anything that might be an issue on the show. It also gives the team time to film other segments and then include them on the show when it airs on the WWE Network.
This has given them time to record some of the best segments such as Io Shirai attacking Shayna Baszler at the WWE Performance Center. Filming the show several weeks in advance also gives the stars time to tour and do live shows without any interruption.
If NXT moves to the USA Network, the network executives may demand that it airs live instead of a taped show like other WWE shows. This would affect a lot of what people enjoy in NXT, and it might even reduce the number of people who watch NXT.
#1 Vince McMahon could have a greater role in NXT
When Triple H took over NXT, Vince McMahon gave him complete control of the brand. This has given Triple H the leeway to develop storylines that we typically wouldn’t see on the main roster. The show also has a different look and feel from RAW and Smackdown, both of which are under Vince’s creative control.
However, if NXT moves to the USA Network, all this could change. A program on the USA Network is much more different than a program on the WWE Network. Executives from the USA Network have their own expectations, which Vince is more familiar with than Triple H. Because of this, Vince might play a larger role in NXT moving forward.
Dave Meltzer confirmed this by saying that he does not believe Vince will be hands-off with NXT if it moves to the USA Network. This has the potential to be a double-edged sword.
On the positive side, Vince will get to know more about the NXT stars and when they get to the main roster, they will not flounder without a place on the card. Some of the biggest NXT stars might get a push on the main roster if they impress Vince.
On the negative side, it might affect current NXT storylines and transfer some of the problems that face the main roster to NXT. One of the major issues is the completion of the show’s scripts. It is often reported that Vince McMahon finishes writing the show with minutes left to spare or during the show itself. If this happens on NXT, it might affect the quality of the product.
