On an episode of Raw, he announced that he would have to undergo for neck surgery and two weeks later, refused Stephanie to relinquish his title. She then threatened him by saying that his decision will result in his wife getting fired from the company but after some time Brie quitted the WWE. At this time, many fans thought that Bryan is not going to the ring again but after many months he returned to the company.

At WrestleMania 31, he won the Intercontinental Championship from Bad News Barrett and became the 6th Grand Slam Champion. However, after some time he again got injured and later had to relinquish his title too. Later, he also announced his retirement from the company but returned to the in-ring action at this year's WrestleMania.
