Several WWE superstars left the company this year. Some names weren't that surprising as they were no longer being utilized in the Stamford-based promotion along with speculations leading up to it. However, some names shocked fans.

Since World Wrestling Entertainment came under new management, many former superstars returned and had a successful run like Nia Jax, CM Punk, Chelsea Green, and others. Unfortunately, that also meant that the Stamford-based promotion also had some losses with Baron Corbin, Indi Hartwell, Ricochet, and a few more also departing.

Interestingly, some very notable names also exited the company this year. For this list, we will look at three former WWE Champions that departed WWE in 2024:

#3. Jinder Mahal was released just after creating a buzz on social media

Jinder Mahal started 2024 in a big way. He returned on television and immediately shared the ring with The Rock. He was then placed against Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, which led to him having a back-and-forth with Tony Khan on social media, which then made him a fan-favorite with some even rooting for him to be the champion.

Although it seemed like Mahal was on his way back to being a regular on television, that wasn't the case as he was released in April. He won the WWE Championship in May 2017 and dropped it two months later. He now goes by Raj Dhesi and currently wrestles in the independent circuit.

#2. Bobby Lashley is a multi-time WWE Champion

Although many superstars flourished under the new management, Bobby Lashley felt he wasn't among them. He began this year by being placed with the Street Profits as part of The Pride faction, which didn't truly work out. In August, his contract expired, and he chose not to renew it, along with his erstwhile Hurt Business stablemate MVP.

Lashley debuted in AEW in October and joined MVP and Shelton Benjamin to form The Hurt Syndicate. The 48-year-old is a two-time WWE and ECW Champion respectively.

#1. Vince McMahon stepped down earlier this year

World Wrestling Entertainment began its year with a major controversy when Vince McMahon, who rejoined in 2023 to aid the sale of the company, was involved in another lawsuit against a former employee. It wasn't long before it was announced that the 78-year-old had stepped down.

Vince McMahon held the WWF World Heavyweight Championship for six days in 1999 by defeating Triple H. In 2007, he became the ECW Champion for 36 days but was defeated by Bobby Lashley.
