#2 The Randy Orton vs Kofi Kingston finish
Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton had a WWE Championship match at SummerSlam which was turning into a decent little match, that is until the finish.
Towards the end of the match, Randy Orton found himself on the outside of the ring in front of Kofi's children who were sitting in the front row. For a split second, I thought Randy Orton may RKO Kofi Kingston's children. It was not to be though, probably best considering they are around 5 years old.
No, the finish instead was a double count-out, definitely not the finish you would want in the WWE Championship match at the second biggest show of the year. This was a very similar finish to the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam last year where AJ Styles retained by disqualification after he hit Samoa Joe with a chair. This after Joe was insulting AJ's wife and child.
WWE apparently enjoys doing family-oriented storylines in the summer and they work sometimes, but this was not the night for a double count-out. They could have done many other finishes to set up a rematch and this was one of the worst ones they could have chosen.
#1 Not doing a Matt Riddle vs Goldberg angle
Matt Riddle didn't wrestle on NXT Takeover the night before SummerSlam but he did appear on the show. He brawled with his current rival Killian Dain and they both ended up crashing through some tables.
Goldberg, of course, beat Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam and "beat" is probably the understatement of the year. He absolutely destroyed poor Dolph.
Matt Riddle has been very critical of Goldberg's work especially after his match with The Undertaker at Super ShowDown. The heat between the two is clearly real and has no storyline involved in it whatsoever. But, WWE could have capitalized on these superstars' very real feelings and made it into one of the hottest storylines of the year.
Riddle wouldn't have to be called up full-time and they don't even have to do a match, but if WWE had shot an angle between the two, it would have been electric.
