As we are heading closer to the Grandest Stage of Them All, the WWE is naturally getting a lot of surprises out of the bag.
Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Batista made their returns to the WWE this week, giving the road to WrestleMania a whole new level of star power.
With two big matches already scheduled to take place, the WrestleMania card is looking good thus far. The management teased plenty of matches this week which could make this year's card one of the biggest of all time.
While Batista vs Triple is the obvious choice, here are the three other matches WWE teased on its weekly programming.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#3. Kofi Kingston vs Daniel Bryan
If anybody in the WWE currently rivals the crowd reaction that Becky Lynch is getting, its Kofi Kingston.
Kingston has been in the WWE for over a decade, but 2019 seems to be the most glorious year of his career. He finally got his big break when he was awarded the opportunity to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career at Elimination Chamber.
After delivering a memorable performance in the gauntlet match on SDLive, Kofi replaced Mustafa Ali at the Elimination Chamber PPV and carried the momentum to put on sterling performance inside the dreaded steel structure.
The former Tag Team Champion got another opportunity for the title at the upcoming Fastlane PPV, but that moment was short-lived thanks to Vince McMahon replacing him with a returning Kevin Owens.
It may look like the title shot has been snatched away from Kingston, but at the end of the day, it's all part of the storyline. Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania is a bigger deal than winning it on any other pay-per-view.
And Vince McMahon is wise enough to realize that. It will give the company lots of mainstream media coverage, as well as the first ever African-American World Champion.
#2. Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre
Roman Reigns made a historic return to WWE programming this week on Monday Night Raw. The former Universal Champion announced that he is in remission, and is almost ready to compete. He displayed a glimpse of his former self when he teamed up with Seth Rollins to join forces against the newly formed stable between Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, Elias, and Baron Corbin.
Both Rollins and Reigns made their presence felt when the Stable was busy ganging up on Dean Ambrose. They saved the Lunatic Fringe from the four-on-one assault and then left him lying in the ring.
It looks like The Shield is pretty close to reuniting again and they might end up facing Lashley, Corbin, and McIntyre at Fastlane. However, that leaves Roman Reigns without a match at WrestleMania.
While Rollins stomped Elias into oblivion, Reigns took down McIntyre with a spear this week on Raw. This might be a tease of a future feud between the two.
Ever since Drew McIntyre made his return to the main roster, he has been on a roll. He has taken down some of the biggest stars similar to how Reigns was booked in his early days.
A match between these guys will be a great addition to the WrestleMania 35 card, and McIntyre beating The Big dog at the Grandest Stage of Them All and will be the first step in WWE pushing the Scottish Psychopath to the very top.
#3. Randy Orton vs AJ Styles
The heavily rumored contest between the prominent athletes finally seems to be happening. This week on the episode of SmackDown Live, WWE planted the seeds for a huge match-up for the coming future. Randy Orton disrupted AJ Styles when he was being interviewed backstage.
After Styles said he’s going to fight to stake his claim on the house that he built, Orton came in and responded, “The house that AJ Styles, what?”
Its been a long time since both Orton and Styles were in the WWE Championship picture, and both need something to do to stay relevant on the Road to WrestleMania.
If this is exactly the plan going forward, then it is a breath of fresh air for the fans as it will trigger a new level of intrigue and would add much-needed star power to the 'Mania card.
We'll have to wait and watch whether WWE books it for Fastlane or for WrestleMania. However, it would have a bigger feel at WrestleMania since Fastlane will already be stacked with marquee matches.
