#2 The AEW Women's Division needs more depth in terms of storytelling
Last night, Jamie Hayter and Emi Sakura took on Shanna and Riho in a tag team contest.
It was earlier announced that AEW Women's Champion Riho will defend her title against Emi Sakura at Full Gear.
As of right now, it is pretty apparent that AEW's strengths lie in their singles (men's) and tag team divisions so far.
But when it comes to the Women's Division, it feels as if the company lacks a lot of elements to build up a sustainable program for their Women's championship bouts.
Sure, Sakura and Riho will face each other at Full Gear, but what is the story here? What is the selling point that would drive viewers to particularly tune in for this match?
On top of that, AEW simply doesn't have a lot of compelling women characters on their roster. There is great potential to transform the company's female wrestlers into actual stars, but as of right now, pitting them against each other in singles or tag team matches every week without any context in terms of the story doesn't help at all.
Truth be told, it looks the company is doing fine without putting too much focus into its female talent. But it is still a department that AEW needs to work on in the meantime.
