The WWE Royal Rumble has been synonymous with professional wrestling since 1988. Professional wrestling fans can watch WWE or not, but arguably every fan enjoys the WWE Royal Rumble match. Throughout the PPVs illustrious history there have been epic moments worth remembering.
At Royal Rumble 1994 Owen Hart turned on his brother Bret Hart. In 1999 Vince McMahon outlasted 29 other men to secure a victory. However, wrestlers themselves provide reasons to watch the match, notably Kofi Kingston and his anti-elimination tactics, (watch the video below).
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This year both Royal Rumble matches are expected to generate immense drama. However, only a handful of participants have confirmed their entry. Nevertheless, the action is not just limited to the Rumble itself, with a notable match being Brock Lesnar versus Finn Balor.
If these three men won the Rumble, it would be surprising, but it would also be great.
#3 Samoa Joe
Samoa Joe debuted in NXT and changed the brand's complexion. Suddenly the roster was motivated by the presence of this future legend. Nevertheless, on Raw and SmackDown Joe has yet to make an impact. However, with the Royal Rumble in mere days, what can we expect from Joe?
In recent weeks Joe has proven his value as a dominant figurehead in WWE. His attack on Mustafa Ali cemented his credibility, (watch the video below). Moreover, it generated intrigue. Therefore, during the Royal Rumble match more interaction is likely. Additionally, it would add to their feud. Perhaps Joe could eliminate Ali from the match.
The reason Joe would be a lucrative option to win the match is simple. Firstly, his vast experience could benefit a WrestleMania championship match. Secondly, Joe deserves a championship opportunity. However, most importantly Joe has connections with everyone who could end up being champion at Wrestlemania. Whether he faces AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Brock Lesnar or Finn Balor, it would be epic.
#2 Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre has progressed exponentially since returning to WWE. In NXT his dominance was almost unparalleled. However, his tenure with Raw has not yet reached its pinnacle. In recent months McIntyre has established his individuality, separating himself from Dolph Ziggler, (watch the video below). Ultimately his path has just begun, and it's a path headed for the Universal Championship.
At the Royal Rumble McIntyre has an advantage. That advantage is his previous participation in Rumble matches. However, there are others with this same advantage. Therefore what could McIntyre bring that others cannot? Ultimately, the answer would be his dominance and drive.
McIntyre since returning to WWE has been excellent. His character and ring presence have quite literally altered to another level. During the Rumble match, McIntyre will be almost unstoppable. His deserves a victory. Moreover, imagine the potential WrestleMania matchups. What can we expect?
#1 Dean Ambrose
Dean Ambrose returned in 2018 with a brand new look and attitude. After a brief reunion in The Shield, he would turn on his former Raw Tag Team championship partner, Seth Rollins. Since then their feud for the Intercontinental championship has reshaped the Raw brand. In addition, it has cemented the importance for mid-card feuds.
Now that Ambrose is no longer Intercontinental Champion (watch the video below), he has set his sights on winning the Royal Rumble. Interestingly in 2016, he and Triple H were the last participants. However, Triple H was victorious. Nevertheless, Ambrose has proven his worth at the Royal Rumble.
During the match, it is unpredictable what could happen. Therefore, Ambrose is highly suited. His outrageous and crazy behavior would greatly benefit his chances. With Ambrose winning the Royal Rumble WWE has a plethora of excellent WrestleMania match options. Just imagine Dean Ambrose versus AJ Styles, or perhaps Finn Balor.
