Back in 2012, AJ Lee was involved in a love triangle storyline with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. Bryan and Punk feuded over the WWE title for months on end, with AJ showering Punk with her affections. Punk seemed disinterested though, and this didn't sit well with Lee. She proposed Punk on an episode of RAW, but Bryan interrupted the segment before Punk could respond to Lee's proposal.

Soon after, Punk, AJ, and Bryan shared the ring again on the July 9, 2012, edition of WWE RAW. This time around, Punk made it clear that he was rejecting Lee's proposal by stating that he isn't going to marry her. This angered AJ to no end, and she responded with a slap. Bryan told AJ to get together with him instead, but she ended up slapping him as well.

Lee later accepted Bryan's proposal and the marriage was on for RAW 1000. While exchanging vows with Bryan, Lee revealed that WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon had offered her the role of RAW GM, and she left him heartbroken in the ring.
