#4 AJ Styles does not want to work with Paul Heyman
Prior to 2020, it appeared as though AJ Styles and Paul Heyman were on good terms.
In 2017, Heyman even cut a passionate promo about The Phenomenal One’s in-ring ability following his performance against Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.
“If you’re not an AJ Styles fan, you shouldn’t even be watching WWE. He’s everything that Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart and Ric Flair were to their generation, and he’s updated it. He’s evolved their styles to truly be the single most phenomenal in-ring performer I have ever had the honor and the pleasure of watching up close.”
It was later revealed on AJ Styles’ WWE 365 documentary that, at the request of Heyman, the two-time WWE Champion watched the promo from just a few feet away.
Unfortunately, during Heyman’s stint as RAW Executive Director in 2019-2020, the relationship between the two men soured.
Speaking on his Twitch channel, AJ Styles called Heyman a “bold-faced liar” and accused him of being responsible for the releases of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.
AJ Styles also confirmed that he moved from RAW to SmackDown in May 2020 because he could no longer work with Heyman, who still had a role on the RAW creative team at the time.
“The reason I went to SmackDown is because I couldn't stand looking at Heyman. I just can't stand a liar. I am a grown man. Why lie about anything? He didn't have to say anything. I told myself, 'If and when an opportunity comes to move to SmackDown, I had to do it.'” [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
Shortly after AJ Styles moved to the blue brand, Heyman was replaced as RAW’s Executive Director by Bruce Prichard.
