WWE has officially announced the return of the Saturday Night's Main Event special, which will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024, and will air live on NBC. Saturday Night's Main Event will return to WWE programming after years, as part of the deal between the Stamford-based company and NBC Universal.
With that in mind, we expect the match card to be stacked for this event and filled in with big-time matches. So, what matches could take place in the main event of the special show? We take a look at three of them.
#3. Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan

This feud is far from over and each episode of Monday Night RAW adds more fuel to it. At the Bad Blood Premium Live Event on Saturday, October 5, 2024, Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan will collide once again, with the Women's World Championship on the line in the bout.
No matter the outcome of the match at Bad Blood, though, their rivalry will not be over, given the unfinished business between The Judgment Day and The Terror Twins.
In three months from now, however, it could be a good spot for the feud to end. Thus, Saturday Night's Main Event could see Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan face off one final time for the Women's World Championship, with the loser being forced to leave Monday Night RAW and move to SmackDown.
#2. Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa
Roman Reigns returned to WWE after a hiatus of four months to deal with Solo Sikoa, who had taken over The Bloodline and had declared himself the new Tribal Chief.
Reigns has his sights set on Solo and the former will team up with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes to take on Sikoa and Jacob Fatu in a tag team match at Bad Blood 2024.
However, we do not expect this feud to end anytime soon, and Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 could see The Bloodline Civil War in full force.
Still, Saturday Night's Main Event could see the former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and Solo Sikoa collide again, which could create new angles and could be the first step in the potential feud between Roman Reigns and The Rock.
#1. Gunther vs. CM Punk
CM Punk is seemingly set to put an end to his rivalry with Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood in early October 2024. The two men will clash inside Hell in a Cell and are potentially set to move on to their next storylines.
Meanwhile, Gunther is expected to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Sami Zayn in a rematch from WrestleMania XL. Zayn has confronted The Ring General on multiple occasions and the match should become official soon.
As for CM Punk, he has made it clear that he will go after Gunther for the latter's title, therefore a match between the two for the World Heavyweight Championship could happen at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.
Should this match take place, fans could see a returning Seth Rollins costing Punk his match, re-igniting the feud with the Best in the World, which is possibly set to lead to a match between the two at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025.
