Cody Rhodes is considered a top babyface in WWE and has defended the Undisputed WWE Championship on several occasions. The American Nightmare is expected to defend his title against Solo Sikoa at the Money in the Bank 2024 Premium Live Event after the latter attacked him at Clash at the Castle.

Even though The American Nightmare has thrived as a babyface ever since his return to WWE in 2022, there is a possibility he could turn heel as he recently opened up about it in an interview with Cheap Heat.

"I think I’m lying if I say I don’t think about it. This new generation, I’m so invested in them. It’s rare when I think outside of, well, what about a version of me that’s that’s hated? That’s disliked. That’s booed, and I’ve certainly been booed before. I’ve been booed heavily. I guess I think minimally about it, and I could — you never say never," Cody Rhodes said. With that in mind, we take a look at three possible reasons why the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion should turn heel before the end of 2024.

#3. He already gets booed as a babyface

Cody Rhodes finished his story at WrestleMania XL and got a standing ovation from fans after he became a world champion for the first time. Still, as he continues his run as a champion, he gets booed by fans who do not like the way he performs as a babyface and a champion.

Thus, we have usually heard "We want Roman!" chants from fans, as Roman Reigns did a tremendous job as a heel for almost four years. With that in mind, it would make sense for Rhodes to turn heel, as it will create a new angle for his stint as a champion.

#2. It could pave the way for new angles for his feud with Roman Reigns and The Rock

Cody Rhodes had a mega feud with both Roman Reigns and The Rock, which reached its peak at WrestleMania XL. Both The Tribal Chief and The Great One took some time off after The Grandest Stage of Them All, but they are expected to return in the coming months.

There is a possibility that both stars will return as babyfaces, so it would make sense for WWE to have Cody Rhodes turn heel, as it would create new angles in the storyline once Reigns and The Rock are back in the Stamford-based promotion.

#1. It would help new challengers to step up

With Cody Rhodes being a babyface, there are not many top stars on SmackDown that could challenge for the title. So far, the 38-year-old star has defended his title against AJ Styles twice and against United States Champion Logan Paul once.

Solo Sikoa is expected to be the next challenger, but after that, there are not many heels that can step up and challenge The American Nightmare. On the other hand, if Cody turns heel, several superstars on the blue brand can emerge as new challengers. These include names such as Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and LA Knight, with all of them being babyfaces at the moment.
