Drew McIntyre and CM Punk finally squared off at SummerSlam 2024 to settle their long-standing feud. However, the match ended in favor of The Scottish Warrior, who defeated The Best in the World, thanks in part to the escalating tensions between Punk and special guest referee Seth Rollins.

In this article, we will discuss three possible reasons why The Voice of the Voiceless fell short against McIntyre at The Biggest Party of the Summer.

#3. WWE might want to set up a second match for Punk and McIntyre

Drew McIntyre's victory at SummerSlam 2024 could indicate that WWE plans to continue the feud between him and CM Punk beyond this event. If the latter had emerged victorious, it might have ended their rivalry in a single match, especially since Punk had already labeled Drew a loser on multiple occasions.

The Best in the World had also stated before SummerSlam that he would focus on the bigger picture after defeating McIntyre at The Biggest Party of the Summer.

However, with Punk failing to achieve this goal and McIntyre reclaiming the Larry-AJ bracket after the match, it clearly signals that their rivalry is set to continue. Hence, one of the reasons for The Voice of the Voiceless' loss is WWE's intention to set up another match between these two.

#2. To revive Drew McIntyre's momentum

Drew McIntyre has been sabotaged by CM Punk on multiple occasions, including when Punk cost Drew his MITB briefcase cash-in. If Punk had not interfered, Drew might have been the current World Heavyweight Champion.

This situation provides another reason for The Best in the World’s loss at SummerSlam. WWE might want to give The Scottish Warrior his redemption over Punk, which would help revive McIntyre's momentum.

With Drew's victory over Punk, his momentum is restored, positioning him much stronger in his continuous rivalry with CM Punk.

#1. To plant seeds for CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins

The ending of the match is crucial, as Seth Rollins' involvement as the special guest referee was a significant factor in The Best in the World’s loss at SummerSlam 2024. If a regular referee had officiated, Punk might have been able to focus fully on Drew and emerge victorious.

The distraction caused by Rollins allowed Drew to deliver a low blow to Punk, which played a key role in the outcome.

Punk’s loss at The Biggest Party of the Summer seems to set the stage for a future rivalry between Punk and Rollins. If Punk had won despite the interference, he might not have been as frustrated with the result. However, with this angle, CM Punk now has a grudge not only against Drew but also against Seth Rollins.
