At the 2024 Money in the Bank, Damian Priest successfully retained the World Heavyweight Championship. While he was originally scheduled to defend his title against Seth Rollins, the match became a Triple Threat affair midway after Drew McIntyre cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
While McIntyre was close to winning the World Heavyweight Championship, an interference from CM Punk ensured The Archer of Infamy retained the World Heavyweight Championship. With this victory, Damian not only secured the title but also saved himself from leaving The Judgment Day.
In this article, we will look at three reasons why WWE booked Damian Priest to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank:

#3. WWE booked Damian Priest to retain due to major SummerSlam agenda
At SummerSlam 2024, Damian Priest will have to defend his World Heavyweight Title against Gunther. The latter earned a World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam after becoming King of the Ring.
Hence, WWE probably wants to book Gunther to win the title, and that's why they booked Damian to retain. A match between Priest and Ring General could also witness the latter turning face, and a victory over Damian would also make sense since he has been the champion for a while now.
#2. To not break The Judgment Day
Ahead of the match at Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins told Damian Priest that if Damian lost the match, then he would have to leave The Judgment Day. This could be the potential reason why the Stamford-based promotion booked The Archer of Infamy to retain.
After all, breaking The Judgment Day at this point in their career won't be the wisest decision. While the faction will break apart at some point, it won't be fun seeing the same without Rhea Ripley.
#1. For the title to not lose its value
The World Heavyweight Championship on RAW is the equivalent of the Undisputed WWE Universal Title on SmackDown. And given how the title is behind handles on the blue brand, RAW also needs a dominant champion who can keep the belt with him as long as possible.
Hence, to avoid tarnishing the value of the World Heavyweight Championship by making it a belt that frequently changes hands, WWE could have booked Damian Priest to win. Regardless of the reasons, Damian's victory at the premium live event opened up many new possibilities for Monday Night RAW.
