Gunther has been on a dominant run since winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam. He is now set to head into Crown Jewel in a couple of weeks to face the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, for an opportunity to become the first-ever Crown Jewel Champion.
According to many fans, The Ring General is the favorite to emerge victorious in Saudi Arabia. This speaks to Gunther's dominance, as many believe he has the capability to defeat someone of Rhodes' caliber, someone who has not been pinned in singles matches all year.
Gunther has already successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship against top stars like Randy Orton and Sami Zayn, and it seems likely that he could hold the title for a long time.
On Monday Night RAW, Judgment Day's Dominik Mysterio hinted that he could be the one to dethrone The Ring General. While Carlito and Adam Pearce may have laughed at the prospect, we can't completely underestimate the former NXT North American Champion.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Here are three reasons why Dominik Mysterio could potentially dethrone Gunther to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
#3. Shock-title change due to change of plans
There are no signs that Gunther will lose his World Heavyweight Championship anytime soon. However, the company may have other plans, such as a potential world title feud between CM Punk and Seth Rollins, which was originally set to happen earlier this year before Punk's injury.
It might still be too early for Gunther to lose his title cleanly, and this is where WWE could utilize Dominik Mysterio to switch the titles. Dominik could shockingly defeat Gunther with a simple roll-up or due to outside interference, causing a surprising title change that fans wouldn't anticipate.
Dominik could be a transitional champion, eventually dropping the title to someone else. This would also protect Gunther, as fans would likely view Dominik's victory as a fluke. Therefore, Gunther could easily be reintroduced into the title picture later without issue.
#2. Re-establish Judgment Day's dominance on WWE RAW
Earlier this year, The Judgment Day held all the gold, with Damian Priest holding the World Heavyweight Championship and Rhea Ripley reigning as the Women's World Champion. However, things have changed significantly over the past few months. Priest and Rhea are no longer part of the faction.
Liv Morgan has joined The Judgment Day and is the current Women's World Champion. WWE might be looking to put the World Heavyweight Championship on Dominik Mysterio to further develop their on-screen relationship. This move would also help re-establish The Judgment Day as the most dominant group on RAW.
#1. Goldberg could cost Gunther the World Heavyweight Championship to set up a major match
At WWE Bad Blood, Gunther made some harsh comments toward Goldberg and his family, who were seated in the front row. Things quickly escalated, with Goldberg nearly getting into a confrontation with the Imperium leader before Sami Zayn attacked Gunther.
Since then, there has been speculation about Goldberg returning to WWE for one final retirement match. If Dominik Mysterio were to face Gunther, Goldberg could potentially interfere in the match, costing Gunther the World Heavyweight Championship.
This would set up a major feud between Gunther and Goldberg perfectly. In the meantime, Dominik could play the role of the cowardly heel champ while Gunther finishes his program with Goldberg and returns to reclaim his title.
