John Cena made his surprise return at the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event last weekend and announced that he will retire from in-ring action in 2025. The Cenation Leader added that he will embark on a retirement tour that will last from January through December of 2025.
Several dream matches have already emerged as a likely scenario for the 16-time world champion, while Randy Orton is the favorite to take on John Cena at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.
Still, it is unclear whether Cena will be a babyface during his farewell tour or he will have a heel turn, which fans would love to see. With that in mind, we take a look at three reasons why the WWE legend should consider a heel turn when he kicks off his retirement tour in January.
Corey Graves deleted his Tweet! More details HERE.
#3. Fans haven't seen it in almost two decades
John Cena wasn't a babyface during his entire career. In his first years with WWE, he was a heel, but he became a babyface once he became a champion. That was two decades ago, and since then, the 16-time World Champion has always been considered the top babyface.
Thus, turning heel again would help Cena move in a different direction and put an end to his legendary career in a different way than most people think.
#2. John Cena could bring back The Doctor of Thuganomics persona
In the early stages of his career, John Cena thrived as The Doctor of Thuganomics, a persona that he used before becoming a WWE Champion.
During that time, he was a heel, but after he turned babyface, this persona was brought back to WWE only on a very few occasions.
Thus, it would make sense for Cena to bring back The Doctor of Thuganomics persona for one or more premium live events. To do so, though, a heel turn would be necessary, and it would help bring another chapter of his legendary career go full circle.
#1. It would open the road for a match against Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship
Cody Rhodes has replaced John Cena as the top babyface in WWE. This was obvious during his feud with The Rock and Roman Reigns, which led to the title match at WrestleMania 40, where Rhodes finished his story.
Now a champion, Cody Rhodes is expected to collide with John Cena as part of the latter's farewell tour. But this can't happen with both as babyfaces.
On that occasion, it would make sense for Cena to turn heel and challenge Rhodes to a match for the Undisputed WWE Championship. That way, he would have the opportunity to defeat The American Nightmare and make history, surpassing Ric Flair for the most World Championships in WWE history (they are tied at 16).
This would be the perfect ending to Cena's career, as he would become a World Champion for a record 17th time, but this time as a heel, which fabs haven't seen happening in almost two decades.
