Over the past two weeks, the cruiserweight division has taken many interesting turns. Between Enzo Amore being released, a new general manager and a vacant championship, there's a lot to talk about. Although this could be a recipe for disaster if booked wrong, it can also be a recipe to revive a dead brand.
With Neville walking out due to unhappiness with his role, Rich Swann being suspended due to domestic abuse allegations with his girlfriend, and Enzo being released due to sexual abuse allegations, the cruiserweight division hasn't been able to catch a break.
Today we'll talk about the top 3 reasons to watch 205 Live if you haven't started already.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1 Charismatic General Manager
What did NXT, RAW, and Smackdown have in common that made them feel like a WWE branded TV? Each show had a general manager, to add personality to the brand and help the cruiserweights whose best quality is in-ring action with the promo part of the show.
With that said, the next General Manager of 205 Live is none other than Rockstar Spud. Drake Maverick, as he's called now, is a former Impact Wrestling talent. Maverick has fantastic promo skills, and the ability to work the crowd like no other.
On top of that, Maverick is also a great wrestler capable of telling a story inside the ring without using over-top wrestling moves. With prior experience in an on-screen management role, it should be interesting to see how this plays out.
#2 New Talent (even if temporary)
Previously, I talked about how Drake Maverick was the new general manager of 205 Live. The first action of Maverick was to create a 16 man tournament for the vacant cruiserweight championship.
With a 16 man tournament announced (more on that later), this would be a great time to introduce new talent to 205 live. Even if it's only temporary bringing in known talent such as Tyler Bate, Roderick Strong or other NXT Superstars.
Having the current cruiserweights of 205 Live face off against well-known Superstars of NXT will give the tournament a special feel of anyone can show up.
This week we saw Tyler Bate, from the UK championship Division, face off against TJP. In a great match, this was a nice taste of what we can expect if other Superstars decided to step up to face the cruiserweights.
Next week Roderick Strong will take on Hideo Itami in the first round of the vacant Cruiserweight championship. If they have a match half as good as they had on NXT, we are in for a treat.
Possible people I'd love to see enter the tournament
Rich Swann
Richochet
Rey Mysterio
Brian Kendrick
Neville
#1 Back to the basics
This past week, Drake Maverick introduced a 16 man tournament for the vacant Cruiserweight Championship. The finals of this tournament will take place on the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania. I'm beyond excited about this if this is anything like the original Cruiserweight Classic we are in for a hell of a ride.
For the first time on 205 Live, we heard a "205 "Chant during the opening match between Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik. This match was a first-round match for the vacant tournament.
If this is any indication of what the fans think of the new 205 Live, then revamp of 205 Live is already working. The crowd was also into the main event of the night and another first-round match for the vacant championship, TJP vs Tyler Bate.
This match was just as good as the first match of the night, with the crowd on their feet throughout the match. I'll be sure to enjoy the ride and just like you should too! If you haven't watched the latest episode of 205 Live due to skepticism of past episodes, you should as it was all about high flying, hard hitting wrestling.
With the talent like they have now on 205 live expect this to be a fantastic roller coaster ride and tournament on the road to WrestleMania!
