3 reasons why the Tribal Chief Championship is a terrible idea for WWE

WWE Superstars Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa will finally battle in a one-on-one match at the premiere of RAW on Netflix. While the two Samoan wrestlers will be battling for the Ula Fala and the title of The Tribal Chief, the company may also throw in a new Tribal Chief Championship in the mix.

However, this could be a disastrous decision for both wrestlers as well as The Bloodline. Here are three reasons why the Stamford-based promotion should drop this idea.

#3. The Ula Fala already exists to signify the real Tribal Chief

The Ula Fala became a highly coveted prize in WWE ever since it was introduced, especially after it was acquired by Solo Sikoa. Despite the high value attached to it, the nature of the prestigious garland makes it an exclusive item for wrestlers of the Samoan Bloodline.

Thus, despite their towering positions in the company, wrestlers like Cody Rhodes, Gunther, CM Punk, and many more can never wield the Ula Fala. Now, if the Tribal Chief Championship would do the same job, then its purpose is already being fulfilled. Having two items to indicate the same standing that only a few people can acquire would be a bad idea.

#2. The problem of too many WWE titles

WWE likes to maintain a delicate balance regarding the number of titles. Titles come with the baggage of title defense matches, which take up a slot in premium live events. Considering that these matches would be on par with the world title matches, they would greatly burden PLEs and their audience.

The company could try to avoid holding title defense matches on some of the shows. However, WrestleMania usually mandates that all champions defend their belts. Moreover, rivalry matches like CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre also need space on these shows. Thus, a new title would disrupt the balance WWE has established for its shows.

#1. The championship will stifle Roman Reigns and The Bloodline

Although it would be a great honor for any wrestler that a new title is being made specifically for their character, this concept could also backfire. Roman Reigns has fought several opponents during his regime as The Tribal Chief, including Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, and many more.

However, if he gets tied to the Tribal Chief Championship, then the pool of wrestlers he can fight immediately shrinks. WWE can make him face several rising stars like Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed in the future. However, if the OTC is forced to defend the Tribal Chief Championship at PLEs, then the audience will never get to have such matches.

Thus, the new championship would just stifle Reigns and the other members of both the new and OG Bloodline. It would be interesting to see if WWE really introduces the new belt for its current biggest faction on the roster.
