WWE Superstar Trick Williams defended his NXT Championship at the recently concluded NXT Heatwave Premium Live Event, in a Fatal Four-Way Match against Ethan Page, Shawn Spears, and Je'Von Evans. This bout promised to be a mouth-watering prospect for the fans.
In what was the main event of the show, all four men showcased why they deserve to be champion, delivering an action-packed and chaotic match. During the closing stages, Trick delivered his signature move, The Trick Shot, to Je'Von. He then executed a second Trick Shot on Ethan Page, but as he was about to pin him, Shawn Spears pulled him out of the ring.
Meanwhile, Page fell directly on Je'Von from the Trick Shot he received, leading the referee to count the pinfall. Thus, Ethan Page shockingly became the new NXT Champion, much to the disbelief of Trick Williams at ringside.
Here are three possible reasons why Trick Williams lost the NXT Championship at Heatwave.

#3. Feud with Shawn Spears on WWE NXT
The tension between Trick Williams and Shawn Spears started a few weeks back when they got involved in a brawl during an episode of NXT. Spears even pinned the champion during their singles match ahead of Heatwave.
And once again, Spears was the one who prevented Trick from securing the win at during the Fatal Four-Way Match, leading to Trick losing his NXT Championship. WWE may be planning a non-title feud between the two stars in the coming weeks, and this loss could serve to add more fuel to their rivalry.
#2. Trick Williams' new character arc before eventual call-up
Trick Williams has seen a meteoric rise over the last 12 months, eventually getting his big win during Wrestlemania 40 weekend at NXT Stand & Deliver against his old friend turned rival, Carmelo Hayes.
He then went on to defeat Ilja Dragunov to become the NXT Champion. His title reign of 75 days has now come to an end, which could signal a new chapter in Trick's run on WWE NXT.
The 30-year-old star is destined to be called up to the main roster sooner than later, and WWE may want to ensure that Trick is well-rounded ahead of making the big move. This loss could bring a new development to his character, which could evolve on-screen in the weeks to come.
#1. Long-Term storytelling
One of the common features of the current WWE era is the emphasis on long-term storytelling. Ethan Page recently made his NXT debut and quickly got into a program with Trick Williams, challenging him for the NXT Championship at Battleground last month, where Trick prevailed to retain his title.
But now, Ethan Page has got his win back and will look to ensure that he manages to stay champion for a long period of time. Trick will have known that something like this could happen, considering the chaotic nature of the Fatal Four-Way Match, and will look to get back his title very soon.
WWE may possibly revisit this rivalry down the line where Trick challenges "All Ego" for the title in a third decisive match to put an end to their story.
