AJ Styles has been the WWE champion for more than one year now. However, he has not defeated many credible opponents during his reign. Other than his recent victory over Daniel Bryan, Styles' only singles victory against a former champion during this reign came against Jinder Mahal at Clash of Champions.

Styles lost clean multiple times during this reign whenever he faced the big names in the industry. Styles lost to Brock Lesnar at last year's Survivor Series and John Cena before Fastlane 2018.

Thus, this title reign is very similar to that of CM Punk's legendary 434-day reign. During his reign, Punk defeated mid-carders and upper mid carders regularly. However, when big names like John Cena came, Punk was denied a clean win.

A win over Brock Lesnar would solidify AJ Styles as a legitimate champion.
