The Empress of Tomorrow vs The Man for the SmackDown Women's Championship is a match that every single member of the WWE Universe would love to witness, including myself. One could even go as far as saying that this match could main event any pay-per-view card. However, it shouldn't even be taking place at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
Here are 3 reasons why:
#3 Becky should be in the Royal Rumble match
It is important to note that it is not a foregone conclusion that Lynch will not participate in the Royal Rumble match. She could lose her match against Asuka and still go on to compete in the Rumble match, much like what Roman Reigns did in 2017 when he lost his Universal title match against Kevin Owens but still went on to be in the final two of the Royal Rumble before being eliminated by the eventual winner, Randy Orton.
With The Man more over than ever, it would be appalling if WWE did not put her in the Rumble match and tease the possibility of her winning and choosing to face Ronda Rousey, the woman she's traded words with for months and who even cost Becky her title at WWE: Tables, Ladders and Chairs in December.
#2 Asuka vs Charlotte Flair should be the Championship Match instead
Considering that Lynch should be in the Royal Rumble match and that Carmella is already a participant in the match at number 30 after winning Mixed Match Challenge, that leaves The Queen as the best possible opponent for Asuka at the Royal Rumble.
Charlotte hasn't defeated Becky Lynch, Asuka or Ronda Rousey in singles competition in recent months, so she could be built up as a former champion who hasn't won the big one in a while, only to lose to Asuka again at the Royal Rumble.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the WrestleMania 35 main event is penciled in to be a triple threat match between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte and Becky Lynch so The Queen losing here wouldn't hurt her chances of participating in that match as she could earn her spot at Elimination Chamber or at Fastlane.
However, it would be a huge mistake if Lynch wins back the SmackDown Women's Championship and actually misses out on the Royal Rumble match.
#1 A repeat of 2015
Remember the infamous 2015 Royal Rumble where Roman Reigns was victorious? The crowd turned on the match immediately when Daniel Bryan was eliminated, as he was the clear fan favorite going into that Rumble match.
Could you imagine what it would be like if Charlotte Flair won the Rumble instead of Becky Lynch? While there is nothing wrong with Flair winning this match, the fans would most certainly see it as WWE continuing to push their "preferred star" instead of the superstar that the fans adore. This could possibly result in the fans turning on the Rumble match much like they did in 2015.
