Kane wore a mask from his 1997 debut up until he unmasked for the first time six years later. The reason he wore a mask was to hide the burns and scarring on his face, which the Undertaker caused when "accidentally" setting the funeral home on fire - killing their mother and injuring Kane in the process.

Undertaker admitted being at fault for the fire, despite previously denying it. Kane got his revenge at the 1998 Royal Rumble when he and kayfabe father Paul Bearer locked him in a casket before setting it on fire. However, the Undertaker disappeared and miraculously escaped unharmed.

Kane should have earned his true revenge by defeating the Deadman at WrestleMania, where ending his streak would have taken something which truly meant something to him.

After all those years, Kane would have finally got the long-awaited revenge he has craved for two decades.
