Ever since the announcement of Roman Reigns returning to WWE spread out, one constant question that was on everyone's mind is: Will we see the Shield reunite once again?
After Dean's heel turn on Seth Rollins on the night of Roman Reign's announcement of Leukemia, it looked like The Shield is done and we would never see The Hounds together again.
But recently, Dean Ambrose has been showing the signs of going back to his "lunatic" persona which can be a sign that WWE is planning yet another Shield reunion.
This week on RAW, Roman Reigns made it clear that he wanted to reunite the Shield one last time before they all are no more around. After reuniting on RAW this week, the Shield is set to face the team of McIntyre, Corbin, and Lashley this Sunday at Fastlane. In the coming weeks, we'll find out what holds next for one of the biggest factions in WWE's history.
In this article, let's take a look at 3 reasons why Shield's reunion would be a success and 3 why it would fail. Feel free to share your thoughts and comments.
#3 Fail: Defeats the purpose of Dean turning Heel
Dean's turn on the night of Roman Reigns Leukemia announcement was one of the biggest heel-turns in recent memory. It was not the heel-turn actually, but the timing of it which was a huge shock for the fans.
If The Shield reunites without Reigns confronting Ambrose for his actions, then it completely defeats the purpose of Dean's heel turn in the first place. Not to forget the harsh words Dean used for Reigns in his promos. All that can't just be forgotten.
#3 Success: One last hurrah before Dean leaves WWE
According to Roman, the main motive behind him wanting to reunite the Shield was to get back his brothers one last time before they are not all around together. Now, this surely was a nod to the news of Dean Ambrose leaving WWE after WrestleMania 35.
If this news is indeed true then fans would love to see a Shield reunion for the last time. As Roman mentioned, life is too short. If this indeed is the last moments of these 3 together, then a Shield reunion and the last hurrah would be a perfect send-off for Dean.
The Hounds can recreate their magic one last time and make everyone remember why they are known as one of the most dominating factions of all time.
#2 Fail: No proper factions to face, will become stale
One major issue with the Shield reuniting is the lack of proper competition for them. Say the Shield does reunite, who do they go against?
The only legitimate faction that they can go against is the budding heel faction of Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Bobby Lashley. Though it would be great to see The Hounds serve justice and beat down these heels, they are in a feud with Braun Strowman.
Even if The Shield does collide with them, what next? There is no one whom the Shield can go against.
#2 Success: Create Buzz for WrestleMania season
If there's one major reason why Vince might plan to get the Shield back together, it would be to get the mainstream attention on WWE's product and create the Buzz for the WrestleMania Season.
The Shield will no doubt be one of the biggest attractions of WWE shows and will surely attract more fans to come and watch these shows.
With the recent loss in TV ratings as well as low attendance in RAW and SmackDown, The Shield might just be what WWE needs.
#1 Fail: It won't be long before someone turns again
The original Shield break-up due to Seth Rollins attacking both Roman and Dean, joining hands with the Authority was one of the biggest back-stabbing moments of the modern era.
Now that was a perfect way to create interesting storylines that followed. The Shield since coming back was doing fine until Dean turned this time on his brothers.
The Shield reuniting again won't last for long definitely. It won't be long before someone turns on The Hounds again. The only question here is: Who will that be?
Will it be Roman Reigns this time, since he's the only one remaining to turn heel since the Shield's break-up. Tough to say!
#1 Success: Could set up future storylines nicely
The Shield reuniting means there are plans for a future heel turn and more interesting storylines. It was rumored that Reigns would be facing Ambrose for the Universal Championship at this year's WrestleMania before he announced his Leukemia situation.
Ever since coming back, the news of him taking on Ambrose again started emerging online. But it looks like the fans have to wait to see these two collide.
Another interesting situation would be to have Reigns turn heel and attack Seth Rollins on the RAW after WrestleMania and challenge him for the title.
Many more interesting storylines could emerge with the Shield reuniting again. A debuting Undisputed Era going against the Shield would be a huge moment in WWE history.
