Another reason why The Fiend is the perfect opponent for Daniel Bryan is that the latter has been going through a difficult period in his life and career. Over the past couple of weeks, he has worked neither as a heel nor as a face. He has done just what he wants to do because, after everything that has transpired in the near-decade he has been with the company, Bryan doesn't have much left to accomplish. He seems to be at a loss as to where he goes next.

Bryan has been teasing a face turn in recent weeks, and the switch roles from villain to hero is coming sooner rather than later. For that very reason, Vince McMahon might have decided to pit The Fiend against Bryan. It helps Bryan become the underdog character that he is so stellar at playing, and helps WWE sell more merchandise by potentially bringing back the Yes Movement. It will also help Bryan fighr back against the Fiend, of course.

Also, due to the lack of popular faces in the SmackDown division, turning Bryan back into one of the good guys is a very important move.. It makes this feud with The Fiend a proper heel vs face program, and both Bryan and Bray will come out better for it.
