In the modern era of social media, any controversy often results in an array of companies dropping their sponsorships due to backlash. FIFA was of course a famous example that lost lucrative sponsorships due to the controversy surrounding the organisation in 2015.

If the WWE pushes forward with the event despite the advice of US Government officials, some WWE sponsors may find themselves under pressure to drop their association with the company.

Sponsorships are of course a huge source of revenue for the WWE, and the company has had successful deals with Snickers, KFC, and Cricket Wireless. The event is taking part mostly due to the huge amounts Saudi Arabia is willing to throw at the WWE. However this all changes if it costs the company sponsorship back home in the United States.
