On the last edition of its flagship show, WWE announced that the King of the Ring tournament would be making a return on Raw next week. It further went on to reveal the 16 participants - The Miz, Ricochet, Cedric Alexander, Drew McIntyre, Cesaro, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, and Samoa Joe representing the red brand, and Elias, Kevin Owens, Chad Gable, Andrade, Shelton Benjamin, Buddy Murphy, Ali, and Apollo Crews representing the blue brand.
However, last evening WWE revealed the much-awaited official brackets for the tournament set to begin this Monday night. While the first round matches will take place this week on Raw and SmackDown, the final is likely to be held at Clash of the Champions.
On another note, featuring some high profile clashes in the likes of McIntyre vs Ricochet, Cesaro vs Samoa Joe, KO vs Elias, the first round of the tournament looks mouthwatering. However, expect WWE to book some shockers, not only to add that element of surprise to the contest but to also lay down the breadcrumbs for a few potential feuds.
So, without further ado, let's take a look at 3 shockers WWE could be planning for King of the Ring tournament.
Cody Rhodes' uncle is a WWE Hall of Famer. More details HERE.
#3 AJ Styles and The Club cost Ricochet his qualifying match against Drew McIntyre

Let's get this straight. AJ Styles and Ricochet are far from done. And this Monday night could be the makings of another big clash between the two for Clash of Champions.
Even though Styles currently has his focus set on Rollins and Strowman, I don't see WWE going with it anywhere, given the rumors of Rollins vs Strowman on September 15. Thus, Styles vs Ricochet could be on the cards for one last time.
On another note, much to the shock of the fans, WWE has booked Ricochet vs Drew McIntyre in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. Given The Scottish Psychopath is the hot favourite to win the contest, a loss for Ricochet seems likely to be in the cards.
However, WWE could have The OC show up to cost Ricochet the qualification match. While this would act as an apt explanation for his loss at the hands of McIntyre, this would also lay down the breadcrumbs for one final face-off between Styles and Ricochet for the US title at Clash of Champions.
#2 Shane McMahon helps Elias secure a win over Kevin Owens

When Kevin Owens defeated Shane McMahon at SummerSlam 2019, it was speculated that the existing feud between Owens and Shane McMahon would be done and dusted. However, it was not meant to be. As a matter of fact, Shane even fined KO $100,000, and it would not be wrong to say that the duo is far from over.
On another note, Owens is scheduled to take on Elias in the first round qualifying matches of the King of the Ring tournament, and potential interference from Shane seems like a no brainer.
Shane could interfere to cost Owens a place in the second round of the event, laying down the breadcrumbs for a potential match between the two in the process.
Well, to be honest, WWE is missing a trick by not pushing Owens in the main event scene, given he is riding high on momentum and confidence. And another match against Shane McMahon would certainly not be 'best for business'.
#1 The Fiend attacks The Miz

The Miz is all set to square off against Baron Corbin in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. Given WWE's love for Baron Corbin, you would expect him to at least make it to the second round. Wouldn't you?
On another note, The Miz has not been a part of any major feud for quite some time now, as a matter of fact, apart from missing a few pay-per-views in the last couple of months, The A-lister was not even a part of SummerSlam. Thus, the host of Miz TV is in dire need of a strong feud with some gripping storyline to get back to business, and one such feud could be against Bray Wyatt.
The Fiend seems a perfect opponent for The Miz as the latter could sell the fear and terror like a champ. Also, it would be amusing to see The A-lister being pushed to his mental and physical limits.
After decimating Finn Balor at SummerSlam, The Fiend did not feature on the following episode of Raw/SmackDown. However, WWE could have Wyatt return this week on Raw to cost The Miz his qualifying match against Corbin. The Fiend could pay a surprise visit when the match official is down to lay waste to The Miz. This would then lay down the breadcrumbs for an epic feud between the two.
