Damian Priest recently won the Fatal Four-Way match on WWE RAW to become the number one contender for Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship. The former champion defeated Dominik Mysterio, Sheamus, and Seth Rollins, but some signs and reports may have indicated they won't be clashing anytime soon.
Damian Priest and Gunther have a not-so-distant history with each other. At the 2024 SummerSlam, The Ring General dethroned The Archer of Infamy with the help of Finn Balor. The former champion couldn't get his rematch as he targeted his former Judgment Day groupmate first. On next week's WWE RAW, the rematch can finally take place, but it may not be that soon.
For this list, we will look at three signs Damian Priest will not be Gunther's next opponent even though he won on this week's WWE RAW.
#3. Gunther may be set to have a different opponent at Survivor Series
A rematch as big as Gunther vs. Damian can only take place at a premium live event, and the nearest one coming our way is Survivor Series. However, another big moment that happened during that PLE last year was the return of CM Punk.
With Punk's current WWE run reaching the one year mark at the upcoming PLE, the company may want to do something big to commemorate it. With this in mind, he might be the one to challenge The Ring General for the World Heavyweight Championship instead.
#2. Finn Balor may not allow Damian Priest to challenge for the title anytime soon
Finn Balor was noticeably angry when he learned that Damian was eyeing the World Heavyweight Championship again. Due to this, the former Universal Champion may do everything in his power to ensure Priest won't be champion.
Finn can launch a backstage attack on Priest and reignite their feud to ensure Damian won't be able to set a time and place to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship. Amid this, the champion can find a new opponent while the former stablemates settle their score.
#1. Gunther vs. Damian Priest is rumored to take place at a special show
As mentioned above, many are expecting that the rematch between the WWE RAW stars will take place at Survivor Series. However, some reports have stated that it might take place at Saturday Night's Main Event instead.
On December 14, 2024, Saturday Night's Main Event will return to NBC for the first time since 2008 at Nassau Coliseum in New York. With this in mind, both men will likely be busy with different stars en route to Survivor Series: WarGames.
