Drew McIntyre and CM Punk continue to call each other out, but it is still unclear when they will collide. The most likely scenario is that it will take place at SummerSlam, but WWE has yet to officially announce it.
CM Punk is still not medically cleared to compete after he suffered a triceps injury at the Royal Rumble in late January, while Drew McIntyre remains suspended after his actions at Money in the Bank.
With two weeks to go until The Biggest Party of the Summer, it appears McIntyre vs. Punk will be a last-minute decision for WWE, as they want to finalize the match card. With that in mind, we take a look at three signs that this match will take place at SummerSlam.
#3. WWE has delayed it for way too long
Amid CM Punk and Drew McIntyre's woes, WWE has delayed this match for too long. The two have had a verbal confrontation for six months, while Punk has cost McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship four times since WrestleMania XL.
Thus, it wouldn't make much sense for the creative team to continue that way and have Punk interfere in McIntyre's matches. So, a match at SummerSlam appears to be a no-brainer for WWE if they want to extend the rivalry going forward.
#2. Drew McIntyre remains suspended until CM Punk is officially cleared to compete
Drew McIntyre refused to apologize to referees and RAW General Manager Adam Pearce for his actions at Money in the Bank when Punk cost him the World Heavyweight Championship.
Thus, he remained suspended for at least one more week, but with CM Punk set to return next week, fans should expect him to appear on the show and assault him.
Keeping him suspended should be considered a sign that WWE wants to proceed with the match against Punk, as they don't want to put him in a new storyline amid Punk's recovery.
The only thing fans saw was that The Scottish Warrior re-ignited his feud with Seth Rollins, with the two teasing a future match.
#1. CM Punk was seen working at WWE Performance Center
According to a report by PWInsider, CM Punk was seen working at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. The Best in the World was working in the ring, as the WWE medical team is expected to clear him to compete.
Punk appears in the final stages of his recovery and should be medically cleared to compete before SummerSlam. With that in mind, being at Performance Center should be considered a sign that WWE will eventually complete the match card for The Biggest Party of the Summer.
The July 22 episode of Monday Night RAW will shed more light on how the company will proceed with the match, as Punk will give an update on his status.
It is also worth noting that Seth Rollins is also expected to get involved in the rivalry, as he has unfinished business with both fellow megastars. However, it is unclear what role he will play and whether WWE will add him to the match or keep him out of the feud until the next premium live event.
