This Sunday, for the first time ever, WWE Stomping Grounds will air from the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. This will be the first edition of the event and will stream live on the WWE Network, which is absolutely free for new subscribers.
Many of WWE's top stars will be in action at the event, including Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kofi Kingston, Becky Lynch, Daniel Bryan, and many others. 9 matches have been scheduled for the event and these are as follows:
- Bayley (c) vs Alexa Bliss for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship
- Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre
- Becky Lynch (c) vs Lacey Evans for the Raw Women's Championship
- Seth Rollins (c) vs Baron Corbin for the Universal Championship (A special guest referee of Baron Corbin's choosing will call the match)
- Kofi Kingston (c) vs Dolph Ziggler in a Steel Cage match for the WWE Championship
- Samoa Joe (c) vs Ricochet for the United States Championship
- The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
- Tony Nese (c) vs Drew Gulak vs Akira Tozawa for the Cruiserweight Championship
- Daniel Bryan and Rowan (c) vs Heavy Machinery for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship
All WWE stars will look to make an impact at the pay per-view as WWE gets ready for the summer. Among these stars, I have shortlisted three who are most likely to make an impact at the inaugural Stomping Grounds event.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#3 Shane McMahon
This name was always going to be on this list, given that he's been a part of WWE's hottest story-lines this year. Shane is embroiled in a deeply personal feud with Roman Reigns and Shane's friend (at least according to Shane himself), Drew McIntyre, will take on Roman Reigns at the event.
It's almost certain that the match between Roman and Drew will not have a definite winner and will end in controversy. Roman attacked Shane this Monday on Raw and Shane would definitely be seeking revenge. This makes Shane's involvement even more likely.
Reigns and Shane could continue to feud through the summer, and an interference from Shane on Sunday would help further their feud.
#2 Ricochet
Ricochet has been gaining a ton of momentum recently, with victories over the likes of Cesaro and Robert Roode. WWE's management seems to be high on the high-flyer and the sky's definitely the limit for him. Ricochet is set to face the current US champion, Samoa Joe, at WWE Stomping Grounds.
Many officials backstage admire Ricochet and his work, and Ricochet's stock has been rising and his momentum keeps increasing with every passing week. There's a strong possibility that Ricochet dethrones Samoa Joe en route to winning the US title and subsequently wins his first title on the main roster.
A win for Ricochet would do wonders for his career on the main roster. Joe's done a pretty good job as US Vhampion, but I believe that Ricochet has the potential to be a fighting champion. Joe vs Ricochet will definitely tear the house down, but a win for Ricochet will catapult the youngster's career to the stratosphere.
#1 Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is the current Money in the Bank briefcase holder, which guarantees the Beast an opportunity to challenge a world champion (WWE Champion or Universal Champion) at any time or any place. Lesnar's been playing mind-games with both champions, and he has teased cashing-in on many occasions but hasn't cashed-in officially yet.
Seth Rollins seems to be Lesnar's target, although he could always cash in on Kofi if he chooses to. Rollins' feud with Lesnar is far from over, and Lesnar still hasn't forgotten WrestleMania, where Rollins defeated him to win the title. If Lesnar decides to show up, he would definitely play a factor in the Universal Championship match.
Baron Corbin has to choose a special guest referee. Who knows who it could be? It could be anyone from Triple H to Heath Slater (although that's pretty unlikely). It could even be Lesnar. Even if Lesnar isn't the special guest referee, he could always cash in his MITB contract for a Universal title match.
