The WWE Universe is waiting with bated breath for the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania 35. The company has another PPV lined up before we head towards the show of shows, and that's Fastlane. The PPV is always considered to be a throwaway show and usually ends up without any significant contributions in the big picture, however, this time, it's little more interesting.
Kofi Kingston's heroic performance in the SmackDown gauntlet match as well as inside the Elimination Chamber have forced WWE to tweak their long term plans and insert him into the main event of Fastlane. Whether Kofi finally wins the big one or not, WWE would have another month after the PPV to shake things up a bit before WrestleMania. Let's take a look at some of the possible scenarios that we could see unfold after Fastlane.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#3. Kevin Owens will return to the blue brand as a full-blown babyface
As much as it would hurt the WWE Universe to see Kofi not get his well deserved moment at the Metlife Stadium, WWE doesn't seem to be too keen on changing their original plans for WrestleMania.
Kevin Owens has been posting video updates on WWE's Youtube channel since the past few weeks. The clips that have been posted so far have confirmed one thing: Kevin Owens is coming back as a babyface.
After the kind of things Owens has gotten away with in the past (especially the Festival of Friendship segment), we'll get to see a completely different persona of the former indie darling. Owens is coming back as a caring and responsible dad, who loves his kid and likes to spend time with his family.
It's not hard to notice that Kevin's personality traits are not in line with the planet's champion, Daniel Bryan. Bryan is bound to bring up Owens' eating habits, that were on full display in his video update.
Whether the fans like it or not, Owens is will be inserted into the title picture upon his return, with WWE structuring a storyline around the difference in character traits of Owens and Bryan.
#2. Drew McIntyre will challenge John Cena for a match at WrestleMania
Drew McIntyre came back as a jacked up beast on the red brand, and immediately began wreaking havoc. But, his push was suddenly halted when he lost to Dolph Ziggler and was put into a makeshift team with Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin.
The WWE Universe isn't too keen on watching the trio's weekly beatdowns on Braun Strowman as the storyline has run its course. With John Cena's WrestleMania status still up in the air, the possibility of him coming back for a short program with McIntyre could do wonders for the Irish monster.
WWE is hell-bent on building up McIntyre as a force to be reckoned with. What better way to accomplish that than let him go toe to toe with the greatest superstar of this era? McIntyre pinning Cena in the middle of the ring will catapult The Chosen One to the next level.
With the WrestleMania card still in works, we're bound to see the highly anticipated match get added to spice up the show of shows.
#1. Batista will return for a showdown with Triple H
On the SmackDown 1000 show, the fans witnessed the much-anticipated reunion of the most dominant faction of the 21st century, Evolution. Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton and Ric Flair shared the ring together in a moment for the ages, but what set the segment apart was a subtle hint at a potential match between The Animal and The Game.
Batista stated how Triple H had never beaten him in a one-on-one encounter, and things heated up a bit. As WrestleMania looms closer, HHH doesn't seem to have a confirmed opponent for his annual showdown at the grandest spectacle of them all. It wouldn't be surprising to see Batista make his comeback to the squared circle after WWE Fastlane and challenge The Cerebral Assassin to a marquee match at WrestleMania 35.
