The penultimate SmackDown before Survivor Series was a great show as it managed to fulfill its only objective - hyping up this Sunday's PPV. There were some interesting storyline developments, along with one dream match.
The show started with a huge Triple Threat Match between Charlotte Flair, Rhea Ripley, and Sasha Banks, which was won by the first-ever NXT UK Women's Champion with a clever cover. We saw a brawl between Roderick Strong, AJ Styles, and Shinsuke Nakamura after Sami Zayn revealed the new design for the Intercontinental Championship.
'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt attacked Daniel Bryan during his match against The Miz. Bryan was about to bring back the Yes Movement when the lights went off and The Fiend hit the Mandible Claw on the former WWE Champion. In the main event, a huge brawl broke out between RAW, SmackDown, and NXT Superstars after Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, and Robert Roode defeated Roman Reigns, Shorty G, and Mustafa Ali.
In this piece, we are going to take a look at three clever observations from the penultimate WWE show before Survivor Series:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#3 Keith Lee is being booked like a legitimate star
Keith Lee is another one of those monstrous WWE Superstars, who is destined for great things in the future. During the brawl at the end of SmackDown this week, Lee and Braun Strowman had a staredown and for a moment, the cameras were focussed solely on them. If in that insane riot, Lee managed to get attention, it tells you how highly WWE rates him.
He has everything to be a top draw Superstar. One look at Lee and you could tell that he is just the kind of Superstar Vince McMahon would push. Nobody needs to tell you Vince's obsession with giving the ' Big Men' of WWE a series of pushes. Lee is not your average big man and has incredible ability in the ring and no doubt the WWE Chairman likes what he sees.
#2 Bayley vs Becky Lynch vs Shayna Baszler might be the main event of Survivor Series
One of the most anticipated clashes at Survivor Series is the Triple Threat match between Shayna Baszler, Becky Lynch and Bayley.
This is the feud that has been given the most screen time this past month as in almost every show, we have seen either Bayley, Becky, or Baszler have a fight between them. This week's SmackDown was no different.
With all the attention this feud is getting, one can't help but wonder whether or not this match will headline Survivor Series on Sunday. WrestleMania 35 was headlined by women and this year's Survivor Series might not be any different.
This is a dream match in every sense and it has to be showcased like one. Hence, do not be surprised if we see this dream Triple Threat Match is the main event in Chicago.
#1 SmackDown has the lowest chance of getting wins at Survivor Series
This is coming, isn't it? A look at the card of Survivor Series and one could tell that SmackDown is lacking so much firepower. Their biggest draw, The Fiend, is facing Daniel Bryan, which makes the Blue brand's chances of getting something from Survivor Series very slim.
The thing is, NXT needs to be booked strong at Survivor Series because they need to draw some ratingsbecause of their deal with the USA Network. Hence, the Black and Gold brand need these wins more than anything right now.
Also, traditionally, RAW has always got the better of SmackDown at Survivor Series, no matter what kind of a match takes place. Even in the build towards Survivor Series, SmackDown has always looked like the 'C' brand, often filled with filler segments than something concrete. There is little chance of SmackDown getting more than one win at Survivor Series.
