3 things WWE should do to build Kevin Owens as the top babyface of the company

KO's rise to the top

With Seth Rollins apparently turningheel and Kofi Kingston back on the mid-card, WWE has an open spot for the top babyface of the company. The most promising contender for that spot right now seems to be Kevin Owens.

However, WWE needs to be very careful in booking Owens as a top 'good guy' as the company has a history of booking babyfaces poorly that leads the fans to eventually turn on these Superstars.

Kevin Owens has been a heel throughout most of his career. He returned as a face earlier this year, but turned character a little while later owing to Daniel Bryan's injury that saw Owens occupying the spot of the top heel on SmackDown.

However, since his feud began with Shane McMahon, Owens has played the role of an anti-hero, and is slowly being pushed as a top face on the Red Brand.

It seems that the time has finally come for Kevin Owens to claim the top spot. Owens has all the skill to be the face of the company, he is a tremendous in-ring competitor, can cut amazing promos, and on top of all that he has a special connection with the fans.

On that note, here are three ways as to how WWE can book Kevin Owens going forward, in order to make a case for him as the top babyface of the company.

#3 Coming out strong against Seth Rollins

The rivalry between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins began on RAW last week when Rollins hit two stomps on Owens after their match. These two are expected to go at it in the coming weeks and with AOP's involvement, we can expect some controversial finishes.

Regardless of the outcome, WWE must not book Owens as a pawn just to establish Rollins as a heel. This is a perfect opportunity to simultaneously build up both Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens.

WWE should ensure that the two Superstars put on a quality match and book the clash such that in the end, Owens picks up a well-deserved victory.

#2 An impressive Royal Rumble performance

The Royal Rumble match is where Superstars can shine their brightest without winning. A promising Royal Rumble performance will forever be remembered and will go straight into the history books. Fans still talk about outstanding Rumble performances by the likes of Rey Mysterio, Kane, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Chris Benoit, and others.

Surprisingly, Kevin Owens has only participated in two Rumble matches so far. The first one being Royal Rumble 2016, where he lasted a little under five minutes and the second one being on the Greatest Royal Rumble, where he lasted around 10 minutes. He is yet to deliver a memorable Rumble performance, which we all know he's capable of.

While it's not necessary that Kevin Owens wins the Rumble, it's a lot more important that he does put on a spectacular show. The company should try and bring him in early, make a few quick eliminations and feature in the last four Superstars left in the ring. Also, if he is eliminated in a controversial manner, that could build up a good feud for WrestleMania.

#1 A WrestleMania moment

The current rumored plan for the WWE Championship doesn't involve Kevin Owens, but we all know plans can change anytime, especially in WWE. Other than going after the WWE title, what can Owens do at The Showcase of the Immortals?

Owens must have a strong storyline going on leading up to WrestleMania. He shouldn't be put into a contest such as the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and should rather be in line for a big clash at WrestleMania.

After Royal Rumble, WWE has over two months to build up a rivalry for Owens. KO has made the most out of every story he's been put in so far and this one should be no different. He missed last year's WrestleMania due to an injury and a year before that, he and Sami Zayn lost against Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon.

Owens must shine this year and get a WrestleMania moment with a promising victory. After getting all this momentum, it shouldn't be hard for WWE to introduce KO in the WWE title picture. WWE should always focus on building their babyfaces slowly, but steadily.
